Some places hold more than history — they hold generations of faith, craftsmanship and memory.

The conservation of Sakhargad Niwasini Devi Temple, Kinhai, preserved its architectural character through traditional materials, careful repairs and a sensitive approach to its historic fabric.

In 2014, the project received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award of Merit, recognising its conservation efforts.

How did Ganesh Khind get its name?

Hidden within the changing city fabric of Pune is Khinditla Ganapati — a 400-year-old temple with stories of devotion, history and a swayambhu Ganesh idol discovered beneath a Shami tree.

From Rajmata Jijau’s connection to the temple to its place in the history of the Chaphekar brothers, this little-known temple holds much more than meets the eye.

This Ganesh Chaturthi, as you step out for Ganpati darshan, add Khinditla Ganapati to your list.

And this is only the beginning.

Part 2: The Conservation Journey by Kimaya — coming next.

Sustainability isn’t always about using more of a sustainable material.

Sometimes, it’s about understanding where it works best.

For the proposed Bamboo Interpretation Centre & Nature Park at Bhokar, the design explores this balance — using bamboo where it can perform effectively, while considering fire safety, durability and the long-term requirements of the institution.

Because good architecture isn’t about choosing a material and forcing it everywhere.

It’s about making the right choice for the right context.

One material. Three industries. A whole ecosystem. 🌿

At the proposed Bamboo Interpretation Centre & Nature Park, Bhokar, Nanded, bamboo moves beyond craft — into building, furniture and handicrafts.

A space where material knowledge meets making, learning and people — creating new possibilities for bamboo in contemporary design.

From material → to making → to experience.

What if a memorial could continue the work of the person it remembers?

The Savitribai Phule Memorial in Pune was conceived as more than a monument. Rooted in the traditional Wada typology, the complex brings together spaces for learning, welfare, training, culture and community — translating Savitribai Phule’s legacy into a living institution.

From its central courtyard to brick patterns inspired by traditional Puneri saree borders, and from rangoli-inspired flooring to the symbolic water sculpture, the architecture carries her story through space, material and craft.

A memorial that doesn’t just remember her work — it creates a place for that work to continue.

A journey of faith needs spaces that serve people.

Every year, millions of Warkaris walk towards Pandharpur, carrying centuries of devotion. Along this sacred route, Palkhi Tal sites become temporary villages—providing rest, shelter, water, sanitation, medical facilities, and organized spaces for pilgrims.

At Kimaya, we are proud to contribute to the planning and development of these Palkhi Tal sites, designing infrastructure that supports one of Maharashtra's greatest living traditions.

Because preserving heritage is not only about monuments—it's also about creating spaces where traditions continue to thrive.........
