A Lesson from Sir Garfield Sobers
Meeting Sir Garfield Sobers in person, right here in Goa, was one of those unexpected moments that life gifts us. To hear words of appreciation directly from him — unfiltered and sincere — for my work was an honor beyond measure. I even had the rare opportunity to sit and dine with him. Not for a moment did it feel like I was seated with one of cricket’s greatest legends; he spoke with such ease and humility, as though he were just another friend at the table.
When he left, he mentioned that if he were to build his next home, it would be in Goa — and he assured me that he would hire me. That simple gesture reflected the man he truly was: grounded, genuine, and respectful.
For me, that was Sir Garfield Sobers — a man whose greatness was defined not only by his unmatched achievements on the cricket field but also by his spirit, honesty, sincerity, and dedication. He played with a passion that brought glory to cricket in his era, and his humility off the field was just as inspiring.
