India: Larsen & Toubro takes over Daman project from Swiber
L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited (LTHE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has bagged an offshore contract for work on the Daman development project off India.
L&T said on Wednesday that it won a $177 million transportation and installation deal on the Daman project from the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
The company added that the contract encompasses total engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) work on the project.
The project is a part of ONGC’s strategy to extract gas from Daman Field which is situated in the southwestern part of Tapti-Daman block located some 160-200 km northwest from Mumbai.
L&T added that the contract reiterates the long-term association with ONGC in the development of offshore fields in India.
The initial contract for the Daman development project was awarded to Swiber. In December 2016, ONGC suspended work on three projects awarded to Swiber Holdings, which was under judicial management at the time.
This suspension related to contracts between the ONGC and Swiber’s subsidiaries, Swiber Offshore Construction and Swiber Offshore India, for three projects, namely, the C-26 Cluster Pipeline project, the Daman development project, and the Pipeline Replacement Project-4.
Daman project
The Daman development project began production from its first well C24-P4 #3 on August 20, 2016. Three more wells were ready a month later, contributing to an increase in gas and condensate production.
The initial project was approved in August 2014. Offshore engineering and construction contract for seven wellhead platforms, one riser platform, and 100 odd Kilometre subsea lines was awarded in February 2015.
The Phase-I of the project comprising of installation of two wellhead platforms, C24-P3 and C24-P4, and one riser platform, the C24-RP, was completed in April last year.
