A 3,000 sq.ft. residence in an Art Deco building on Marine Drive, Mumbai.

We stripped the house down to the ground and rebuilt it completely, while keeping the character of the Art Deco building as an important part of the design.

The idea was to take the language of the building and interpret it in a more contextual and Indian way — through colour, texture, materials and furniture. Lime-washed walls, customised side tables and furniture designed and made in-house at The Last Goldfish Workshop come together to create a warm and lived-in home.

A special shoutout to our incredible client, Prachi, for trusting us through the entire process, giving us the freedom to explore and being such a strong support system throughout the project. It made the entire process that much more special.

We truly enjoy exploring materiality and see how we can mould elements into experimental product, displayed here are cast bathtubs , basins and counters in our recently completed project Deco.

A 3,000 sq.ft. residence in an Art Deco building on Marine Drive, Mumbai.

We wanted to explore patina, brass and metal, introducing a little post-war Art Deco gold into an otherwise subdued postmodern interior. A subtle nod to the building’s Art Deco roots, interpreted through a more pared-back, contemporary lens.

Checkered terracotta flooring grounds the space, while an antique harmonium—an heirloom from the clients—adds a quiet sense of history. And then there’s the sunlight, filling the room generously, changing it through the day.
