In today’s scenario, energy security is perceived as a quintessential element for any developing nation pursuing a challenging growth strategy. However, the current status of the power sector in India portrays a large scale of disparities across states, mainly due to the inability to meet the vast demand-supply gap and lags in the field of technological innovation. For India to emerge as a future economic powerhouse on the global firmament, adequate availability of energy to meet power shortages becomes indispensable. At present, the consumption of the non renewable sources of energy like Fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, and natural gas) has been extremely high. This has led to the depletion of the scarce non-renewable resources and necessitated the drive to look in the direction of renewables. On the other hand, there is an ongoing debate on the suitability of adopting a fossil fuel-led growth strategy, especially in the context of environmental concerns. IMC strongly feels that switching to alternative sources of energy like solar energy, bio-gas, hydro power, wind energy and others, will unlock opportune possibilities for countries in the spheres of socio-economic growth, business development, rise of the entrepreneurial class, cost-effective technologies, amongst others. This will ensure an uninterrupted supply of quality energy access to every individual in the country at an affordable price, especially compared to the conventional fuels like kerosene, widely used by the poor. Thus, to promote the cause of Sustainable Energy and Environment Solutions, IMC had initiated RuDiCON (Rural distributed clean power generation) in 2011. After a successful stint of three years, IMC is organizing RuDiCON on Friday, May 30, 2014at Walchand Hirachand Hall, 4th floor, IMC. The theme of the conference is, “Sustainability through Water Conservation and Renewable Energy Infrastructure” and it is structured around the vision of RuDiCON - which is to serve as a strategic 'Think Tank’ and to set up a foundation in the realm of Energy Security by creating new market opportunities for renewable energy usage which is presently very restrictive, moderately tapped and needs a proper channelization for holistic development of the economy.
