Plate Load Test (PLT) in Geotechnical Engineering

The Plate Load Test (PLT) is a widely used field test in geotechnical engineering that provides valuable insights into the bearing capacity of soil and the modulus of subgrade reaction (k) for foundations. This test is essential for designing shallow foundations, verifying design assumptions, and assessing soil performance for pavements and other load-bearing structures.

What it does: Measures soil's bearing capacity and settlement under load.

How it's done: A steel plate is placed in a dug pit, and load is applied incrementally while measuring settlement.
