Some symbols are designed to become icons.
โ
Others become icons almost by accident.
โ
Drive across parts of Spain and, somewhere against an open hillside or an enormous sky, you may suddenly see it:
Silent.
Still.
Impossible to miss.
โ
But here is the curious part.
โ
It was never conceived as a national symbol.
โ
The famous silhouette began in the 1950s as a ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ for Osborne.
โ
Its original design came from Spanish graphic artist
And then something rather extraordinary happened.
The bull became part of the Spanish landscape.
โ
Photographed.
Painted.
Referenced.
Recognised far beyond the campaign that created it.
โ
Until a piece of commercial design became something much larger:
So todayโs question is not:
โ
What animal is this?
โ
That would be far too easy.
โ
Instead
A little clue:
โ
You donโt have to enter an arena to find it.
โ
Sometimes, you only have to look towards the horizon.
