Engineering is the application of scientific as well as practical knowledge. Scientific knowledge is something one can attain through books, lectures and other sources, but practical knowledge requires us to expand the periphery of learning. In Northern India Engineering College (NIEC), the Department of Civil Engineering came into existence in the year 2011. As it is in its initial years of estab
lishment, the department requires a joint effort by, both, the faculty and its students so as to achieve the desired dignity and reputation. As students, we believe that besides the basics and engineering sciences, we should focus on practical understanding of concepts, so as to encourage learning and promote a sense of professionalism. As an initiative, the student body of the Department of Civil Engineering proposes a students’ society, NEEV. NEEV, a Hindi word meaning FOUNDATION, portraying civil engineers as the foundation of the society aims at expanding the sphere of learning beyond books and classrooms. It lays emphasis over the requirements of field and the changing trends in construction. Neev shall also encourage the interaction of students to share their education and experiences within the Engineering field and provide a valuable communication means between students and professionals in the field.
