What does architecture look like at BASICS Architects?
Most people picture the finished building. We tend to picture everything that came before it: the long table where someone asks “but why?” for the fifth time, the material samples spread across a desk, the sketch that got redrawn until it finally felt right.
A lot of our work is simply asking questions and staying with them. We study, sketch, draw and present, and then someone in the room pokes a hole in the idea and we happily start again. That back and forth is where a project gets better.
Then the idea leaves the studio, and site has its own opinions. Drawings meet real materials, real weather and real people, and things rarely go exactly as planned. So we walk the site, mark up drawings on the spot, and work it out with the contractors, consultants and craftsmen who actually bring it to life.
None of this is one person’s work. Every project carries the hands and minds of architects, designers, consultants, clients and everyone on site, and we’re grateful for all of them today.
Through it all, we keep coming back to the same things:
How will people experience it?
How will it respond to nature?
What purpose does it serve?
Will it still make sense tomorrow?
Architecture is never really finished, and neither is learning how to do it well.
