Sketches of the week.

This is where most ideas start for us: Quick lines + Loose thoughts

They help us test proportions, understand layouts, and think through spaces early in the process. It’s often quicker to sketch something out than to explain it in words.

Do you still sketch as part of your design process✏️?

Openings shape how a building is lived in.

Openings shape how a building is lived in. In this farmhouse annexe, the focus was on softening the line between inside and outside. Spaces for long use were planned to stay connected to light, air, and greenery, so movement feels easy and natural throughout the day.

When boundaries fade, comfort lasts longer indoors.

This residence in Bikaner is enclosed on three sides, with the road-facing side as the only opening. While it allows light and air, it also brings heat, glare, dust, and privacy concerns. Closing it was not an option.

Based on our experience with dense urban homes, the front facade had to manage multiple conditions at once. This led to the use of a kinetic facade, which:

→ Maintains visual privacy from the road
→ Reduces glare and heat during peak sun hours
→ Allows controlled natural airflow
→ Lowers indoor heat gain and energy load
→ Filters daylight to reduce artificial lighting use

A static facade would have blocked the house from its surroundings. The kinetic system responds to changing conditions while staying connected to them.

A school designed with durability and low maintenance as core requirements.

Material choices were made early and kept consistent, with exposed concrete and local stone reducing the need for finishes and ongoing upkeep. The building was planned to age without frequent intervention.

Seventeen years later, the building continues to function as intended.

Project: DBDS School

Location: Kota, Rajasthan

Area: 75,000 sqft

Seamlessly blending Architecture with Nature!
Design is no longer just about aesthetics or functionality, it’s about responsibility. In today’s world, architecture must go beyond serving human needs; it must coexist with nature, respect ecosystems, and minimize its environmental impact.
Through Nature-Integrated Design (NID), we are taking small yet impactful steps toward a future where buildings exist in harmony with nature, not against it.

How We Achieve Nature Integrated Design at Basics Architects

At Basics Architects, Nature Integrated Design (NID) is not just a principle, it’s a seamless blend of architecture with nature.
We achieve this by:
1. Designing with nature, blurring the boundaries between nature & buildings.
2. Maximizing natural light & ventilation for healthier indoor environments
3. Adopting climate-responsive design
4. Integrating green elements—landscapes, courtyards, and vertical gardens
5. Using natural, low-maintenance materials for creating resilient buildings
6. Reducing carbon footprint through sustainable construction techniques

At BA, sustainability is not an addition, it’s an outcome of thoughtful design!

What is Nature Integrated Design?
We at have defined a distinct design philosophy called the Nature Integrated Design (NID).
Nature-integrated design is a two-pronged strategy -
1. Creating Habitable spaces – focusing on the health and well-being of users
2. Building Sustainably – focusing on minimizing the environmental impact of buildings

Though both concepts are the two sides of the same coin, what is Habitable is also Sustainable!

this stunning set of three paintings in the lobby of Fybros' Noida office.

From a soothing beige in the diffused light of noon, to a vibrant royal blue in the dappled evening glow – these paintings transform as the clock turns 🕔

A play of light, through time – an element of design that honours the rhythms of nature in its own unique way.

Moving from for this residential project in the heart of Bikaner.

This is a luxury home designed for comfort, community and connection to nature 🍀

The wraparound facade has many portal-like openings. Each opening captures different views – of the street, of the sky, of the tree-shaded courtyard within the house.

A view for every mood, every setting, and every season ⛅
