Can AI save 4,000 lives?
12,000 workers lose their lives every year in the Indian construction industry. 🚧
To put that into perspective, that is 22 times the number of Indian casualties in the Kargil War. Even more staggering? Nearly 37% of these fatalities are preventable simply by ensuring the proper use of PPE kits - helmets, safety harnesses, and reflective vests.
At WEsearch Lab, we believe technology should solve real-world crises. A couple of years ago, our team (along with Saikat Chakraborty) built a demo for PPE compliance detection using computer vision. By visiting active construction sites and training an AI model on real-world footage, we developed a system capable of spotting safety violations in real-time.
If you are working on similar challenges in construction tech or site safety, let’s connect. We’d love to hear how you’re using tech for good. 💡
