What goes into designing auditoriums, especially for universities?

University auditoriums are built for multi-use academic functions and the kind of heavy student traffic few other spaces see.

At Amity University Noida, we designed wooden ceilings and framing to do double duty, adding warmth to the room while shaping its acoustics. Soft seating and considered lighting complete the brief, letting the space move effortlessly between lectures, convocations, and performances.

Before students walk in, a lot has to come together.

From planning classrooms and circulation to shaping spaces for collaboration, play and discovery, every decision contributes to how a learning environment will eventually be experienced.

Across India, our projects are at different stages of this process, from foundations and structural frameworks to interiors and finishing details. Here’s a look at some of the learning spaces taking shape.

How can architecture promote collaboration in learning spaces?

At Amity University, Bengaluru, we clustered buildings across disciplines to bring people and activities into closer proximity. Stilted ground levels open up the campus at grade while improving ventilation, responding to Bengaluru’s tropical climate.

Shared courtyards, shaded circulation and landscaped public spaces tie the complex together, creating deliberate opportunities for gathering and exchange.

Sustainability is often measured in performance metrics, but many of its most meaningful outcomes are shaped much earlier, in the design process itself.

The materials chosen, the ease of long-term maintenance, and a design's ability to stay relevant over time all shape a project's environmental impact long after construction ends. Considering a building's full lifecycle allows design to support longevity, adaptability, and lasting value—the qualities that help spaces endure.

Site updates from Bengaluru!

EuroSchool Hennur is taking shape from the ground up, with the structural framework steadily coming together. Every layer laid now sets the stage for the classrooms, courtyards and corridors that will soon shape young minds.

More updates from the site are coming soon.

A school is never just its classrooms.

It lives in the corridor where a quick conversation turns into a friendship, the staircase landing that becomes an impromptu meeting spot, the courtyard where a lesson quietly spills outdoors. These in-between spaces often carry as much learning as the rooms they connect, shaping how children socialise, pause and discover on their own terms.

At VGA, we design these spaces with the same intent as the classroom itself, treating corridors, courtyards and in-between moments as places of learning rather than leftover space.

Good campus design lives in the moments between classes, in the spaces students choose to linger.

For Amity University Noida's upcoming Student Activity Centre, we shaped a ground floor around that idea. An entrance that sets the tone leads into an open lounge, a reading nook and a buzzing café, all wrapped around a light-filled atrium in warm timber, navy and amber.

Stay tuned for more on this project!

Every project begins with what already exists.

Rather than treating existing trees, structures or site features as constraints, we see them as opportunities to design with greater sensitivity. Preserving mature trees, retaining original structural elements, and working with a site's natural character reduce waste and deepen a project's connection to its context and history.

Across some of our projects, reuse and preservation have shaped design decisions that are both sustainable and meaningful.

What’s on our desks is often a preview of what’s to come.

Sketches, models, material studies, drawings and a few too many coffee cups, each one part of a design still taking shape.

A little look at what’s keeping the VGA studio busy.
