AKDA integrates the disciplines of architecture, interior design, sustainability, furniture, lighting and product design under a singular ethos. Established by Amit Khanna in 2004, the studio philosophy is to make regional specificity and sustainability intrinsic to the design process and product. Every object we produce, be it a 60,000SF office building or a 0.5SF light fixture, undergoes the sam

e scrutiny of process and exactitude; A process that is founded in suitable materiality and innovation, irrespective of appearance. The quest for absolute quality implies that we follow a unique system of design development; one in which we allow ourselves to learn and imbibe from the skills and experience of people who actually craft the buildings and objects that we design. Their early involvement acknowledges them as equal stakeholders in the process, and allows us as a studio, to better predict construction outcomes and quality control. The firm was chosen as one of only five architects among 20 designers in India under the age of 35 to exhibit work in February 2013 (DxD, Alliance Francaise). We were one of the Young Designers of 2013(IA&B), Superstars of Design in 2014 (Society Interiors) and were also selected as one of the top 50 emerging architects in India by iGEN Design Forum 2014. Our work has won numerous awards & has been published in architectural and design journals around the world. Current projects include commercial & industrial buildings, corporate offices, hospitality, boutique retail, multifamily housing, private houses & furniture.

A circular void is the defining gesture of the Safdarjang Residence.

Set within a square brick screen, the opening gives the facade a sense of scale, proportion and quiet monumentality. The composition draws from Louis Kahn’s enduring influence on Indian architecture, where mass, material and light come together to create a distinct architectural language.

Thin brick tiles form the screen, held within a precise stainless-steel framework. Elevated above the ground, the square is proportioned to circumscribe the circle, allowing the geometry to become the architecture.

As the sun moves across the facade, the void shifts between shadow and light, bringing a sense of movement to an otherwise deliberately restrained composition.

The interiors of H26 are shaped by restraint, with every element working to keep the focus on what is being displayed.

White walls and neutral flooring create a visual baseline, while the raw concrete staircase reinforces the building’s industrial character. The ceiling is intentionally left exposed, bringing HVAC lines, fire conduits, cassette units and black ceiling fans into view. Kept above eye level, these services become part of the architecture without overwhelming the spaces below.

Suspended track lights and adjustable spots complete the approach, directing light towards the rugs and furniture. Here, the interior does not compete with the objects; it gives them room to be seen.

Bringing a house together through its facade.

For this residence in Vasant Vihar, each floor was designed around the individual needs of an expanding family. The challenge was to give these distinct spaces a unified expression.

The facade brings the floors together through a consistent material language of two shades of local granite, complemented by walnut panelling and a retained arcade highlighted in yellow granite. The result is a cohesive elevation that allows each floor to retain its individual character.

Stone, pattern and light come together in this façade detail for a residence in Suncity, Gurgaon. Designed as a contemporary take on the traditional jali, the stone screen (swipe to see the pattern sample) will add depth and texture to the façade as the project takes shape.

The character of H26, a commercial building in New Delhi, lies in its materiality.

Red brick, Delhi quartzite and raw concrete come together to give the building its distinctive character. The exposed structural beams and unfinished surfaces allow construction itself to become part of the architecture.

The result is an industrial language that feels tactile, warm, and enduring.

A family home that had outgrown itself.

House 3 was once a large, multi-apartment residence, used by a family that had shrunk over time. The spare bedrooms and a huge basement became storage, while the living rooms turned into makeshift gyms.

We reorganised the apartments into a single home, built around how the family actually lived now, and rebuilt the exterior to match. The old stone façade, worn and letting in street noise, was replaced with a reflective white grit finish that keeps the home cool and quiet.

A new landmark for a changing neighbourhood.

As Moti Nagar transitions into a growing commercial district, the Atrium Tower, a commercial project completed in 2019, establishes a contemporary architectural presence rooted in context. Its linear planning opens every workspace to natural light and park views, while a high-performance glazed façade creates a refined and efficient exterior. The project demonstrates how thoughtful planning can redefine the character of an evolving urban edge.

Row housing was never meant to be one mass.

In Defence Colony, plots are tight, frontages are narrow, and most buildings respond by stacking floors into a single unbroken block. The Vista House takes a different position: reworking Delhi’s modernist row housing as a study in volume and material rather than a single unbroken block.

Instead of one monolithic volume, the residence is composed of distinct, legible parts. The result reads less like a wall and more like a study in mass and material: red brick cladding pulled forward, grey structural elements pushed back, exposing the building’s frame rather than hiding it. Materiality here defines the form; it isn’t decoration layered on top of it.

Work is progressing across our recent residential project in New Delhi.
