A small house in Mayiladuthurai, built around the life it already holds - the cow led out at dawn, the kolam drawn at the threshold, the lamp lit in the pooja before the day begins.

We kept everything close to the ground. A foyer that opens into the living room. A clay-tile roof leaning to one side to carry the rain. An arched opening that frames the verandah, where the afternoon light arrives slow and soft.

The set is all drawing - plan, elevation, section, axonometric. We drew them the way the house is lived in: the cow in its shed, a hand scattering grain for the birds, the tractor at the field’s edge, the kolam at the door. The drawing holds the same warmth we want the house to hold.

Nothing here is new for its own sake. The plan is grown from the way paati already lives - and made to last the way the old houses do.
