At an entrance, I don’t think the biggest planter should automatically get the best spot.

First I look at the door, steps and walking path. A planter should frame the entrance without narrowing the way or hiding the architecture. Even two or three different sizes can work well when each one has a clear purpose.

Placement first. Planter second.

Buying the planter is the easy part. What I always think about next is maintenance.

Can we reach the plant comfortably for watering? Will fallen leaves be easy to clean? Is there enough room around a large planter as the plant grows?

These practical questions may not show in the first photo, but they decide whether the arrangement continues to work well months later.

One mistake I often notice in larger spaces is choosing plants and planters one by one.

It is better to first look at the whole area — the walls, walking space, furniture and where people actually spend time. Then decide what greenery the space needs.

Planning first usually gives a cleaner result than simply adding more.

A common question when choosing planters is: should everything match?

I actually prefer a mix. Different heights and shapes can work beautifully together when the overall arrangement feels balanced. The important part is not to crowd the space.

Sometimes we spend more time deciding where not to place a planter than where to place one. 🌿
