Rajanikant Machhar An Architectural practice with over 4 decades of experience, providing with eloquent design solutions that befit a purpose and a place

We are an Architectural practice with over 4 decades of experience based at Bhavnagar. Established as a studio by Architect Rajanikant Machhar in 1976 the practice has evolved and grown into an organization led by a core team of highly experienced Design and Engineering associates that are simultaneously engaged in diverse range of projects. Embracing a comprehensive design philosophy that is intuitive yet pragmatic the practice is committed to architecture that reflects and celebrates the human spirit. The practice believes that Architecture is not about design or theory per se, but is about responding to the geographical & environmental context of a place, to human needs and aspirations, to the social & cultural context that define a place, to space management & economics and usage of appropriate technology leading to built form suitable to that place and purpose.

Office for Jenburkt Pharmaceuticals Limited – Foyer as threshold.

At the Jenburkt Pharmaceuticals’ administrative building, transparency becomes an architectural position — black-framed glazing holds the director’s chamber and conference room in constant visual dialogue with the space between, privacy achieved through visual acoustics rather than concealment. A single column anchors an otherwise dematerialised plan.

Institutional architecture, regional lineage, both, without compromise.

Kindergarten for Dakshinamurti Vidyarthi Bhavan.

The Courtyard and its passage as a Classroom,

Morning light, pours through into the courtyard penetrating balusters of the parapet, casting a ladder of shadows across the river washed kota stone floor. The pattern is almost pedagogical in itself: ordered, countable, measurable. A child walking this corridor does not merely pass through —the child walks across a sundial, through a lesson in angle and interval, the floor becomes a drawing, the sun - first teacher, and then there is learning about texture and material – inside and out – between the made world and the one that has grown around.

Entrance Foyer, Administrative Building - Jenburkt Pharmaceuticals Limited.

The space is conceived with the restraint of contemporary corporate architecture - yet it carries within it a soul that is unmistakably rooted in the cultural landscape of Gujarat.

Central to arrival of the foyer is ‘Mata ni Pachedi’ - the sacred textile tradition originating from the Devi-Pujak community of Gujarat, rendered in the tradition's characteristic depiction of Goddess Meldi.

This work, finding its home within a corporate institution is in itself a statement of core values of the founders and that of the current generation that is carrying forward their legacy. To place this work of Art at the heart of their Administrative office is gesture of genuine reverence and faith, it deserves to be honoured and has been put up at a place where the institution works and gathers. In commissioning and patronizing this work, they have ensured that a living heritage tradition finds continuity not in a museum, but in the rhythms of everyday institutional life.

The pairing is considered and precise: the rigour of modern construction on one hand, and the living heritage of a two-hundred-year-old folk tradition on the other. Together, they frame a foyer that is at once a place of arrival and a place of intention - where a pharmaceutical institution grounds its identity not merely in the contemporary, but in the enduring cultural fabric of the land from which it grows.

Kanakiya House

An exercise in contemporary modernism, the idea is not just to apply ornament to the facade but also allow its constructional logic to generate an aesthetic.

A rigorous dialogue between solid and void, an assertive tectonic gesture with the pronounced cantilever of the upper volume. This overhang performs multiple functions: it provides solar shading, it declares structural ambition, and it produces a powerful interplay of compression and release.

Deep-set apertures, vertical slivers — are carved with an almost sculptural conviction, producing shadow reveals that animate the facade across the arc of the day. These recesses are not incidental; they are load-bearing elements of the visual argument, giving the white mass its relief and temporal depth.

Build Judiciously . .. Landscape Generously!

Capturing that fleeting essence of a beautiful evening!

One transitions from the house into the curated expanse of the landscape, it is one of those moments during which the dwelling profoundly dialogues with its context, effectively . .. almost dissolving the boundary between the built and the open.

Kindergarten Building for Dakshinamurty Vidyarthi Bhavan.

Navigating the dialogue between a historic context of the school and early childhood education we were posed with a unique challenge to design a new Kindergarten building for Daskhinamurty Vidyarthi Bhavan along with its existing 115 year old building.

A sensitive yet distinct architectural intervention within a historic campus, we employed a robust tectonic language —juxtaposing the heavy, textured massing of exposed aggregate finish plaster against crisp, white planar walls.

Deeply recessed fenestrations not only provide passive shading but create intimate, child-scaled thresholds, while open corridors and carefully worked out openings invite the surrounding landscape in.

The result is a highly tactile, endearing environment where the architecture acts as a gentle, protective framework for discovery, the architecture embraces dappled light and shadow—creating a secure, endearing enclosure thoughtfully scaled to a child's perspective.
