Set within a lush residential landscape in Kottayam, Kerala, Beneath the Canopy is a 4,700 sq. ft. tropical residence conceived around a simple yet powerful idea: that a home should be experienced as a continuous journey rather than a collection of enclosed rooms.

Designed by a son for his parents, the residence serves as both a family home and a retreat. The brief was shaped significantly by the father’s use of a wheelchair and his desire to remain closely connected with the outdoors. Rather than approaching accessibility as a separate technical requirement, the design places movement, visual connectivity, landscape, and ease of access at the centre of the architectural strategy.
