On world cycling day which was celebrated on June 3rd , when I was asked by a news paper reporter, the reason behind having reduced my much loved , my most favourite outdoor activity, back then… CYCLING . I was and still am one of the only two women cyclist in Goa who have participated and completed long distance self supported interstate rides and cycling was my one and only form of exercise and recreation for over a decade. My reply and suggestion to her you can read in the article attached . After moving to North Goa , I constantly see roads being dug up, crazy traffic and unhealthy polluted air with construction shuttering and debris all around. Rarely I feel like looking around to admire nature unless i go deep inside the ghats and remote villages. It’s sad because our Goa was never like this. However since we are moving towards development in this way, least we can do is plan our roads to accommodate two wheeler and cyclists. We are Going round in circles . We create problems and then we find solutions . Most of the time solutions are picked up from the past itself and that’s how we move on years after year ….. We just keep going round and round. That’s the cycle of life. Cut native trees , Build buildings , Then import and grow new trees to get what we already had . We used to stay fit and used Cycles for daily commuting then we made broader roads to accommodate cars and bigger vehicles and then we go to gym to use stationary cycle or a home trainer to stay fit as outdoor traffic and air is not safe and healthy . Isn’t it an irony ? This is NOT sustainable living . This article just made me revisit the pictures from my cycling days so sharing them … a blast from the past
