Eilat Tze'elim Sports center located at Tze'elim neighborhood northwest of the City of Eilat. The total area of the building is approximately 2,000 sqm on two levels. At the entry level is the main basketball court, stage for performances and the audience seats, and on the lower level there is a gym, changing rooms, showers, toilets and machine rooms. The cost of the building was approximately 12 million NIS (about $3.5 million) and the funding came from the National Lottery and Eilat municipality.
The Construction
The shape of the building is an elliptical eggshell that is truncated in the northern and western sides, by screen walls which reveal the interior activity space to the street level, and it derived from the building position of the northwest corner of the site near the existing school. The Shell of the hall consists of arches made of different radius double-T steel beams that support a system of yellow acoustic perforated tin panels, several layers of thermal insulation, rigid metal sheets are supported by secondary structural system, layers of waterproofing, and the exterior overlay of red aluminum panels with openings for ventilation and smoke release. On the western side of the building the shell descends to the lower floor and revealing a wide lighted passage leading to the gym, to the changing rooms, and to the open inside courtyard.
