How often should you treat and demineralise your heating water (and what does it cost)?

Is your commercial heating system using more fuel than it should? Not heating as evenly as before? Or just hasn’t had the water checked in years?

How often should you demineralise? 🕒

For most commercial systems, we recommend:

👉Demineralisation when conductivity or hardness levels are outside recommended limits

What is magnetite, and why is it bad news for your heating system?

Magnetite sounds very fancy, doesn’t it?

Really, it’s the black sludge that builds up inside heating systems when metal parts start to corrode. You’ll often see it if dirty black water comes out when a radiator is bled.
In a commercial heating system, magnetite can cause all sorts of bother, including:

⚠️ Blocking radiators and pipework
⚠️ Slowing down water flow
⚠️ Making pumps work harder
⚠️ Causing cold patches across the building
⚠️ Increasing wear on boilers, valves and other parts

Unfortunately, it doesn’t even need a huge amount to start causing problems. Once it begins collecting in the wrong places, the heat can’t move around the building the way it should.

This is one of the reasons magnetic filtration is often used during a power flush. It means we can pull those tiny metal particles out of the system instead of letting them settle back in and clog things up again.
