We are delighted to announce that Leitrim County Council has approved Manorhamilton's new Fire Station to proceed to construction – a major milestone for the project, with works expected to start on site shortly.

Located on the N16 Sligo Road on the edge of the town, the new two-bay station will provide a purpose-designed base for the local fire service, with crew facilities, a dedicated drill yard and a training tower. The building design responds to the rural North Leitrim setting. A folded roofline and deep red profiled cladding give the station a strong civic presence while echoing the simple agricultural forms of the surrounding landscape, set above a robust grey render base. Red vertical fins screen the larger openings, adding depth and controlling light.

Tender documents have now been issued for the proposed Student Accommodation Building at Ballyhaise Agricultural College, Co. Cavan.
The development will provide 24 en-suite student bedrooms, creating high-quality residential accommodation within the college campus.

Set within the historic walled garden of Ballyhaise House, the building adopts a restrained contemporary form, with its scale, proportions and material palette informed by the character of the college’s existing buildings and agricultural heritage.

The project has reached this important stage following a significant collaborative effort by Teagasc and the wider design team.

There was a fantastic turnout at Sligo City Hall last night for the Architecture at the Edge Festival, where Rhatigan Architects presented our vision for the redevelopment of Sligo Rovers’ Showgrounds.

It was a great opportunity to share the proposed redevelopment with a packed room and discuss the future of these iconic grounds.

A big thank you to Architecture at the Edge for the invitation and to everyone who came along and showed such enthusiasm for the project.

We’re delighted to invite you to the Talk on The Showgrounds for Sligo Rovers Football Club, that take place this Wednesday, the 23rd of September at City Hall.
In this talk, our team will explore the project's journey to date, the key design ideas that have shaped the proposals, and the next steps toward delivery.
The redevelopment will transform The Showgrounds into an approximately 6,000-capacity, all-seater stadium, with two new stands, a new entrance plaza and a mixed-use building along Church Hill Road. The proposals aim to enhance the match-day experience for supporters, players, and visitors while respecting the ground's unique character, history, and identity.
Importantly, the vision extends beyond football. New community and mixed-use facilities will help keep The Showgrounds active throughout the week, contributing to the wider vibrancy of this part of Sligo town.
Gavin Phelan, Director at Rhatigan Architects, will be joined by Trevor James, Director, and Hugh Haran, Project Architect, to tell the story of the project.

Talk on The Sligo Rovers Showgrounds Redevelopment by Rhatigan Architects

We were delighted to recently receive planning permission for a development providing 51 new homes at Cairns Road, Sligo.

The new homes will overlook a large central public park, incorporating both passive and active spaces, including areas for children’s play and kickabout activities. The layout will provide a new pedestrian link from Cairns Road to Pearse Road, allowing the new park to be used by the wider community.

The infill development will provide 43 houses comprising a mix of 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom homes, along with 8 own-door apartments. Almost 20% of the units are designed to be accessible and adaptable in line with Universal Design Standards to ensure a neighbourhood that can cater for a wide range of future residents and accommodate their changing needs over time.

Planning has now been submitted for ATU’s new Veterinary Teaching Facility in Letterkenny – an exciting milestone for the project.

The proposed development will create a dedicated home for veterinary education, bringing together specialist teaching spaces, practical training facilities and animal care within a new purpose-designed campus.

The architectural approach takes its cues from the rural Donegal landscape and traditional Irish settlement patterns, drawing inspiration from farmsteads, ringforts and historic enclosed courtyards. These influences are reinterpreted through a series of contemporary agricultural forms arranged around sheltered central courtyards.

Landscape and biodiversity are central to the proposals, with new native planting, habitat creation and measures to support local biodiversity across the site.

It’s great to see the project reach this important stage following a significant collaborative effort by the client and wider design team.

It is with profound sadness that Rhatigan Architects shares news of the passing of Gordon Chrystal, a beloved member of our team.

Gordon was an immensely talented architect whose creative vision shaped the design direction of so many projects within our practice. His influence is woven into the fabric of our work, and his legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.

Beyond his exceptional talent, Gordon was a true friend to all of us. He will be missed immensely — not just as a colleague, but as someone who brought warmth, humour, and genuine care to everyone he worked with.

Our thoughts are with Gordon's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Our offices will be closed this Thursday, the day of his funeral, as we come together to celebrate his life and contributions.

We are delighted that our Regeneration of Cranmore (Phase 3) has shortlisted as a finalist at the 2026 Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards.

The project, which is the final phase of the regeneration of 353 Social Housing Units, is nominated under the Residential Social & Affordable Category.
