Red, green or black staining appearing on your exterior walls?

It might look like dirt, but much of the discolouration we see on render and exterior walls can be caused by algae and other biological growth.

And the colour doesn't always tell the whole story.

Green growth is commonly associated with algae, while red or pink staining can also be biological in origin. Black or dark staining needs a little more investigation, as it can be caused by algae, mould, lichen, atmospheric contamination, water run-off, or a combination of factors.

That's why we're not fans of simply reaching for the pressure washer.

Cleaning the surface is only part of the job.

This pathway had developed a significant build-up of moss, weeds and organic growth over time.

After removing the bulk of the growth and thoroughly cleaning the surface, we applied a professional biocide treatment to help deal with remaining biological contamination and slow the return of moss and algae.

It’s a good example of why exterior cleaning is not always just about the immediate before-and-after result. The treatment applied afterwards can be just as important in helping the surface stay cleaner for longer.

CleanSafe’s Paddy Meehan recently completed two days of specialist Faber - Tile & Stone Care training in Dublin, covering the professional maintenance and treatment of natural stone and other hard floors.

A big thank you to Faber - Tile & Stone Care for delivering the training and Cleaning Warehouse for hosting.

Specialist floor cleaning and restoration is about much more than having the right equipment. Correctly identifying a surface, understanding how it has been treated, and knowing which products and processes to use, and which to avoid, can make the difference between restoring a floor and damaging it.

That’s why ongoing professional training is an important part of how we work at CleanSafe. The certificate is nice to have. The knowledge we bring back and apply on our customers’ floors is what really matters.
