Luka Bloom made a very welcome return visit to Finns Folk Club in Borrisoleigh last Saturday night, and the full house made their appreciation known from the moment he set foot on stage.

He opened his set with a beautiful piece of guitar picking before launching into a two-and-a-half-hour, non-stop show packed with songs and stories.

Alongside songs from his extensive back catalogue, Luka treated us to some new songs that are sure to become future favourites, as well as two inspired covers — Suzanne Vega’s My Name Is Luka and David Bowie’s Let’s Dance.

Top marks also have to go to the audience, who provided some fantastic backing on several songs, most notably City of Chicago. The atmosphere was something special.

As Luka said himself, “Forget Electric Picnic… we’ll have an acoustic picnic.”

It turned out to be more of a feast!

Another great night at Finns Folk Club. 🎶👏

Last Thursday, the Yonder Boys delighted audiences at Finns in Borrisoleigh with their unique mix of Americana, Bluegrass, and Folk music. Their stunning three-part harmonies and superb musicianship had the appreciative crowd enthralled from start to finish, further reinforcing the reputation of this excellent live music venue and the quality acts consistently presented by Joe Loughnane.

A full house gathered at Finns Folk Club last Sunday night to enjoy folk duo Ger O’Donnell and Trevor Sexton. Their distinctive voices blended effortlessly, delivering an outstanding performance to a warm and appreciative audience.

A standout moment came with a creative reimagining of Spancil Hill, transformed into a reggae-tinged classic and cleverly woven with Walking on the Moon by The Police for extra flavour. Another highlight of the evening was their evocative take on The Coast of Malabar, while a surprise rendition of Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson showcased the depth of musical apprenticeship and versatility the lads have clearly served.

A rousing mix of music, humour, and easy banter carried the night along, making the close arrive far too soon. Thanks once again to Joe for hosting yet another memorable evening of music and entertainment in this wonderful venue.

Another great night at Finns Folk Club..with Colm Gavin and Kenan Flannery

Last Sunday night in Finns Folk Club Bandroom Lane Sessions 2 of Dublins and Irelands premier singer/songwriter acts made a welcome return. On paper the two artists are worlds apart, Colm Gavin, evoking memories of some of American artists such as Billy Joel, Dean Friedman and Jim Croce along with a smattering of Englands Cat Stevens and Kenan Flannery who writes about life, love and loss in the style of John Prine, Arlo and Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger. but forget about what shouldn’t as their passion and powerful songwriting combined with two very different but equally beautiful singing styles delivered a night of unforgettable entertainment to an audience that appreciated their long trek from Dublin last Sunday night. If you are lucky enough to have either playing near you, together or on their own a great night of songs, stories and craic is guaranteed. A big thanks has to go to Joe for providing such a great intimate venue and for the great music and his support of all the great artists who have graced the stage of Finns Folk Club Bandroom Lane Sessions. All these artists deserve support at these gigs, buy their music, attend their gigs, support these artists and the venues they play in because without it “When they’re gone.. They’re gone “
