🌟 Friday Feel Goods

After the recent sponsorship of the Entente Florale Europe awards, we were invited to join one of the Ireland winners - Blackrock, County Louth.

The day began at St Francis Primary School, where we met Ms Lawless and her green council students, who won the Thematic Schools Award for Ireland.

From every corner of the playground came a clear message: sustainability is something children can both learn and shape.

Complete with nature gardens, bug motels, planting beds, a sensory space, herb gardens, and recycled bikes turned into artwork. Even a large, friendly fish who is designed to “eat” the non recyclable plastic waste from the nearby beach, that the children also collect

The journey continued to Ireland’s first Green Flag community garden, guided by the amazing Eileen Guiney and her team. This inspiring space featured thoughtful walkways, community artwork, and QR codes linking different areas to the UN Sustainability Goals, showing the artwork created by the children that brought the message to life.

From local nursery school involvement to St John of God helpers, participating schools, the wider community, and the dedicated work of Tidy Towns, it became clear why Blackrock earned not one, but two awards!

A truly inspiring example, and a reminder of what can happen when communities come together.

In September, we sent six members of our team to the Netherlands for a two-day, hands-on workshop with one of our training partners.

The focus: transport handling and planting practices for trees with trunk circumferences ranging from 20 to 70 cm.

While to the outside world, our work happens quickly, the consequences of getting it wrong can often have time and cost consequences for all involved - from incorrect rootball handling, planting pits that do not drain properly or anchoring systems that cannot withstand early wind stress.

By attending this workshop annually, we ensure ongoing learning and consistent best practice, while also nurturing and developing the teams we work with.

The result is shared: better delivery, healthier trees, and stronger project outcomes for all involved.

Being a member reflects our commitment to helping transform Ireland’s construction and property sector toward a more sustainable, net-zero carbon-built environment.

Our mission at SAP Landscapes is simple: to create and sustain beautiful natural spaces, and through this we continue to align with the IGBC’s goals by supporting projects where outdoor spaces are designed and delivered with environmental performance in mind. We’re delighted to share that SAP Landscapes has received our Business For Biodiversity Ireland Evolution Track badge.

This recognition means we have reached the advanced transformation phase of the Nature Strategy Accelerator Programme, actively implementing nature-positive plans, tracking key biodiversity metrics, and aligning our approach with rigorous corporate reporting expectations.

This badge reflects our commitment to the Transform phase of the ACT-D framework, meaning we moving beyond assessments and strategy into real operational delivery.

Nothing compares to a team building day, especially when it’s designed to help colleagues learn from one another.

On Friday, our Landscapes Team put their day-to-day work tools on hold at site and came together at the SAP Landscapes Head Office to “lift them back up again” through shared learning, collaboration, and teamwork.

The day was packed with practical training and knowledge sharing. Team members introduced new skills, passed on tried and tested techniques, and compared the classic “this is the best way” approaches that keep standards high across the business.

We also took time to connect with other departments, including our HR Team, to recap the benefits we offer staff at SAP Landscapes and to listen carefully to suggestions for continuous improvement.

Of course, no team day is complete without great food, meaningful conversations, and strong team spirit. With the real golden addition of our Golden Awards ceremony - which could easily give the Golden Globes a run for their money!

It was an excellent day to build skills, strengthen relationships, and build momentum for an exciting future.

Congratulations to Jeff Knowles on his recent promotion within our business!

We first met just under a year ago, when Jeff was exploring new opportunities.

He joined our maintenance team as a Team Leader, keen to understand firsthand our business, and how it operates, as well as understanding our teams, and the challenges they can face. From the very start, we were impressed by his enthusiasm and genuine passion to learn, grow, and add value to our business.

Jeff’s background in logistics has been an excellent fit. With extensive experience across transport operations and warehouse management, he brings a strong understanding of the systems that keep our business moving smoothly. That alignment has helped him contribute with confidence, both in day-to-day operations and in broader improvement initiatives.

In addition, Jeff has developed a wide-ranging skill set from compliance and project management, sustainable business development, sales and procurement. His career has been driven by a commitment to operational efficiency, outstanding client relationships, and leading high-performing teams.

And that is what is what being part of SAP Landscapes is all about.
