The Walks, Loughrea The Walks Project - Regenerating this popular, unique, historic walkway in the heart of Loughrea. The walkway was put in place pre 1790.

Over time, the Walks wall and bridges had fallen into a serious state of this repair. Following the commissioning of a Regeneration Plan by Galway County Council, a group of local people came together, to form the Walks Project Team, with a view to securing funding to repair the masonry elements and enhance the biodiversity of the area. Funding has been secured under the Outdoor Recreation Infrast

ructure Scheme (ORIS) and the project is progressing nicely, with over half of The Walks Wall, all of the bridges and sections of stone lining repaired. Individuals and businesses in the local community have contributed over €60,000 towards the regeneration work. Thanks to the project, an area which was becoming a black spot, is now a source of pride and a fabulous fully accessible recreation area, used by people of all ages and of course, the trout.
