Thousands of families had been preparing for another day of school closures today.
That has now been avoided.
The nationwide public-service strike planned for 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟮𝟭 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 was suspended after Government and public-service unions agreed to begin formal pay negotiations at the Workplace Relations Commission.
Talks began on Monday and have continued this week.
For parents, that means the widespread school closures experienced on 14 October have not been repeated today.
But things are not completely back to normal.
📌 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞-𝗧𝗢-𝗥𝗨𝗟𝗘 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘
Depending on the school and union involved, this can still affect things such as:
👨👩👧 Parent-teacher meetings outside school hours
🕗 Additional supervision outside contracted hours
👥 Staff meetings outside normal hours
🏫 Some extracurricular or voluntary activities
No final pay agreement has been reached yet, so parents should continue to watch for updates from their own school.
Both Government and unions are now engaged in negotiations, with pay, cost-of-living pressures, affordability and public-service reform among the issues being discussed.
