Brennan Furlong Architects Architects & Urban Planners

The practice of Brennan Furlong centres on the principle that the well-considered and carefully developed design of buildings and spaces we use every day helps to enrich and enliven the experience of our built environment. Our design approach centres on that philosophy and as such each project is viewed as a unique opportunity to incrementally improve the spaces, in which we live, work and recreate on a daily basis.

A special thank you to the Irish Architecture Foundation team for making it all possible, and huge thanks to our clients for generously opening their home, and to JOEYS PRIMARY SCHOOL! for facilitating the Fairview Park discussions

We’re already looking forward to next year!

This mews project is the next in our as it is approaching completion! Watching this design evolve over the years, from early concept as a masterplan for the lane, to the final details on site, has been a fascinating journey. The transformation from a forgotten unloved and unused lane servicing the original dwellings into what is going to be a busy vibrant extension of the existing established community has been extremely rewarding to be part of. It has been the culmination of many years of hard work on behalf of all involved and we are looking forward to continuing that relationship with our other brave and determined clients embarking upon that journey.

The project is a new family home in a meadow bounded by a stream along its northern edge. The site sits on the edge of the tiny village of Grangecon with expansive views across the plains of Wicklow towards the Slieve Bloom mountains to the West. Thank you to arleneharrisjournalist for the feature

Fairview Park: What Next?

Fairview Park is one of Dublin’s most significant yet under-realised public spaces. Located at the meeting point of the River Tolka and Dublin Bay, it forms part of a wider network of green and blue infrastructure.

Originally formed on reclaimed shoreline in the early 20th century, the park is approaching its centenary. While it has long supported sporting and recreational uses, its relationship with the surrounding landscape has become fragmented. Rail and road infrastructure separate the park from the waterfront, while growing communities place increasing demands on public space. As cities evolve, parks such as Fairview take on an expanded role — not simply as open space, but as places where people reconnect with landscape, water and each other.

This community-led vision for the future of Fairview Park has been developed by Brennan Furlong Architects in collaboration with the Dublin City Sports Club Network, representing over 50 local clubs and schools, building on the DCSCN’s engagement with the Parks Department of Dublin City Council.

The proposal explores how Fairview Park can evolve into a more connected civic landscape, improving access to the water’s edge, strengthening walking and cycling routes, enhancing links to public transport, and upgrading sports facilities for more inclusive, year-round use.

As Dublin continues to grow, the proposal asks a simple question: what should Fairview Park become over the next 100 years?

The next project in our is Yew Lodge, a new house on a leafy lane in Clontarf.

Completed as a timber-framed, A-rated home, the project was featured on RTÉ’s Home of the Year in 2022. Tucked just off Seafield Road, the house is approached along Yew Lane, where its larch-clad first-floor volume announces the building within its mature, tree-lined setting. From inside, the upper level frames views through the trees towards the spire of nearby St. John the Baptist Church, creating a strong connection between the new house and its established Clontarf context.

The second project in our  is a mews house tucked away on a historic lane in Clontarf.

This mews house sits beside an 1840s brick wall — once the boundary of a formal walled garden and later part of Corinthian’s Football Ground.
Built in the garden of our client’s family home, the house holds deep personal meaning and is deliberately modest — hidden from public view and nestled into its surroundings.
Externally, the upper level of the house is wrapped in a light grey profiled metal cladding, drawing inspiration from adjacent car garages. Its muted tone allows the house to subtly dissolve into Dublin’s often overcast skies, reinforcing its quiet presence on the lane
