Promoting sustainable mobility by developing and connecting cycle routes into a safe accessible network contributes to reducing the number of cars and traffic congestion within our cities, and has positive impact on human health and the environment. Can you recognize these cities based on their cycle network? Would you recognize Dublin?

Mapping company Bike Citizens has trawled its database of city cycle infrastructure to create these ‘naked’ cycle maps. Blue lines = protected bike lanes; grey lines = painted lanes. Can you identify the cities?

Lack of space within cities encourages innovative approaches and technologies to new green spaces which often appear as small interventions – such as green roofs, living walls and pocket parks to improve microclimatic conditions and air quality, increase biodiversity and living conditions within our cities.
The example of Wild West End project in London, initiated by owners of the land, promotes the importance and benefits of green infrastructure in the city and creates stepping stones between existing green spaces to enhance biodiversity and improves living conditions for residents. This initiative is a positive example and encouragement for future spatial interventions where space is a premium!

Public spaces are accessible to all, from squares and parks to streets, which are in most cases primarily designed for traffic purposes and are vehicle dominant. The link below shows some examples of good practices around the world where public space is re-designed to increase safety and visual amenity for pedestrians and cyclist. We would love to see more examples within Ireland!

Ashford Castle is set in 350 acres on the shores of Lough Corrib and dates back to 1228. The estate currently contains mature woodland, a championship golf course, walled and formal gardens and an equestrian centre. The recent refurbishment of the hotel included improvements to the estate including the equestrian centre. TBS proposal for the equestrian centre and associated infrastructural elements were carefully conceived to retain and enhance the character of the Castle and grounds.
