In six to eight carefully planned sales a year Whyte's offer an unrivalled range of Irish art and collectibles. The entries in our sales are mainly from private collectors and estates, and many have not been seen in public for many years. Our Important Irish Art and Irish & Internationa art sales are held at the Royal Dublin Society's exhibition centre in the exclusive south Dublin suburb of Balls

bridge. This superbly appointed venue comfortably accommodates the large attendance these sales attract and the ample and secure free car parking is much appreciated by our buyers. Our other sales – including our famous History, Literature and Collectibles sales take place in Molesworth Street with viewing in our galleries and the auctions across the street at the historic 18th century Freemasons Hall.

The discovery of this remarkable watercolour on paper, a version of Aloysius O’Kelly’s chef d’oeuvre, Mass in a Connemara Cabin (1883), is of considerable artistic and historical importance. Quite apart from their exceptional quality, the ex*****on of these images, at a moment when radical Fenianism and land agitation sought a rapprochement with the Catholic Church, makes them very interesting images indeed.

This exceptional work by Aloysius O’Kelly will go under the hammer tonight for our Important Irish Art auction, starting at 6pm.

Dapping on Lough Mask, Co. Mayo […] is a rare, later example which includes the presence of human activity within the immense natural environment of the west and it exudes a simplicity and timelessness for which the artist has since become associated.
