Ever wondered how we repair large gaps between wooden floorboards?

One method we use is called timber shimming.

This involves carefully inserting thin strips of timber into the gaps between the original floorboards, creating a more solid and natural-looking repair.

Once the repairs are complete, the floor can be sanded and refinished, helping the new timber blend with the existing boards.

It's all part of the preparation that goes into restoring original wooden floors properly.

It’s all in the detail.

You never quite know what’s hiding underneath an old carpet.

On this job, the homeowner lifted the carpet and discovered original floorboards underneath that were still in remarkably good condition.

Rather than covering them again, professional sanding and refinishing can bring the character of the original timber back to life and turn it into a real feature of the home.

If you've got original floorboards hidden under carpet, they could be well worth saving.

The Goldilocks Effect – Not Too Dull, Not Too Shiny… Just Right.

When it comes to finishing your wooden floors, there are normally three choices – matt, satin or gloss.

Our personal preference? Satin. It gives the floor a beautiful finish with a subtle shine, without the flatter look of matt or the higher shine of gloss. But ultimately, the choice is yours and we'll talk you through the options.

And if you're lucky enough to have original floorboards, don't be too quick to cover them up. Professional sanding and refinishing can completely transform them – you might be surprised just how beautiful the original timber can look.
