What a great crowd we had TEST SITE on Sunday for a walking tour of our compost set ups on site. We talked the basics of composting, leaves, Bokashi, worms and more as part of the Gluckman’s an casadh installation by Laura Ní Fhlaibhín for Cork Midsummer.

The tour continued to Elizabeth Fort to see the installation and its absolutely stunning sculptural wormeries. Finished with worm castings, the eggs are also hooked up to microphones so you can hear the worms moving live!! We were giddy listening to them 😍

We also featured on an éist show which was a gorgeous exploration of the project through art, science and compost chats. Listen back via the link in our bio 🎧

Soil Savers had our industrial shredder out on this sunny Saturday running on the portable, standalone battery power station. Great fun was had shredding cardboard to use as carbon-rich ‘browns’ in a variety of composting systems. Plus we had a visit from with their electric cargo bike and trailer 😍 and stopped at during Record Store Day to refuel afterwards 🎶

Thank you for Community Garden helping us plant vetch seeds on the back bed in today!

Vetch is a fantastic cover crop from the legume family. Cover crops are plants that are good for covering areas of bare soil. Bare soil loses nutrients and structure so cover crops help keep it healthy.

Vetch also fixes nitrogen in the soil so it improves as well as protects soil! Other ground cover crop options are clover, phacelia and rye 🌱
