🏠Join Shane Doherty Architecture as we take a look around some of the beautiful homes we’ve designed across Donegal.
First up, a Defective Concrete Block Rebuild in Gleneely, Inishowen.
A family home designed around how the family actually lives.🏠
With four teenage children, our clients needed to retain five bedrooms and generous living space while completely rethinking their home on a tight, established site.
The design went through several variations to ensure every element worked, carefully balancing internal space, outward views, natural light, access and garden areas while creating a more contemporary and functional family home.
At the heart of the house is a generous open-plan living area, subtly divided into distinct kitchen, dining and living zones. This gives the family the practicality and connection of open-plan living while creating more comfortable, intimate spaces within the larger room.
The modern kitchen was designed to meet the demands of a large, busy family, with a walk-in pantry and extensive storage helping to keep the main living space organised and uncluttered.🙌
A separate snug provides a quieter, more relaxed room away from the activity of the open-plan area, an important addition in a busy family home.
The rear entrance was also carefully planned around the realities of everyday family and farm life. It opens into a practical transition space, with the boot room and utility area immediately accessible before entering the main house. Cleverly integrated storage has been incorporated throughout, ensuring that every available area works as efficiently as possible.
During construction, the clients identified the potential to make use of the large attic. We worked closely with the contractor to develop a practical solution and make it happen, creating a fantastic additional space for the teenagers, accessed by a cleverly concealed staircase.
A discreet home office was also incorporated into the design, providing a quiet and practical workspace without taking away from the main living areas.
The completed home combines natural stone with contemporary detailing, flat-roof elements and corner glazing, complemented by an exceptional standard of finish throughout.
For us at , this project is a great example of what thoughtful residential design is all about: creating a home that truly works for the people who live in it.
