Beech hedging: should you plant 3 or 4 plants per metre? ๐ณ
We get asked this every day once planting season comes around, so hereโs our honest answer.
๐ For most gardens, we recommend 3 per metre (about 33cm apart, in a single row).
Why?
โ
Each plant gets more room for its roots and more light, so it grows stronger
โ
The plants arenโt fighting each other for water and nutrients
โ
You buy fewer plants and spend less, without losing the hedge you want
โ
Trimmed lightly for the first couple of years, it thickens out beautifully
