With Fathers Day Approaching..

I thought I would show my appreciation for my Dad Fintan Joyce ( who actually looks younger than me at the minute) who introduced me to painting and decorating.

I started helping out during the summer holidays aged 9 ... My hands are still bleeding from sanding 20 years later .😂
Thankfully now and again we get the opportunity to help each other out on projects and I find myself still learning from my Dad .

A massive thank you to this incredible man for teaching me the correct ways to decorate by passing on expert knowledge and techniques .

This was another great project to be involved in. The customers really wanted to give the house a sharp fresh look.

Alot of prep was involved to achieve that high quality finish.

Dulux Weathershield was used on the walls and surrounds. Owatrol EB was added to the first coat for extra durability and protection to areas affected by harsh weather. All sills were primed with Coverstain before any emulsion was applied.

I used the Dosco Roller Sleeve on this project and once again it really does make a difference on the overall finish.This is undoubtedly the best exterior sleeve on the Irish Market today.

The customers were thrilled with the result.

A Eureka moment ...
We have all used a 1/2 inch fitch or a 1/2 inch paint brush for touch ups .

I find the problem with the fitch is the bristles are not fine enough therefore it's harder to touch up,

I used a brush from Axus Decors range it was the 1/2 Sash brush .
Very impressed is a understatement as the fine bristles allow a more even touch up .
At last.. I have been searching for a quality touch up brush ... I have found one

HOW TO PREVENT/FIX YOUR CEILING FROM FLAKING

This is a common problem in older homes. It can happen in new builds also.

There are a number of reasons as to why the ceiling peels or mildew appears such as lack of ventilation and the extractor fan not working especially in older premises

When the steam from a shower hits the ceiling if the room is not correctly ventilated the paint unfortunately will peel and can cause a black mildew to appear.

If the ceiling is painted in normal matt emulsion, the ceiling is going to suffer even more.The regular matt paint isn't resistant to the harsh steam or poor circulation and warm temperatures.

My advice is to clean any mildew with a mildew remover then any loose paint with a scraper. I would then recommend applying the product Zinsser Perma-White.This product is both a primer and a finish coat in one. By using this product it is formulated to prevent mildew and it is durable enough to withstand poor ventilated areas.

I also recommend all new builds to get their bathroom ceilings painted in Perma-White (it can be painted over bare plaster). Due to it's advance durability it will protect your new bathroom ceiling from flaking or mildew appearing.

Hi guys I am reporting previous work on my new facebook business page..
These pictures show the difference a professionally painted house can make.
The walls and roof were both painted using Dulux Paint with the help of Owatrol EB .

The customer was delighted with the new fresh look of the house and roof.

Here is a few tips for anyone painting their exterior.
If possible try source a good quality paint. I highly recommend Dulux weathershield.
Also if doing DIY, try source a good roller sleeve (heavy/long pile) for exterior.
I used the Wooster super/fab sleeve on this project. It was of excellent quality.The heavy fibers help to give the surface a fuller sharper look.
This sleeve was purchased in Ganly's Athlone.

The reason this is my go to paint:
●Dulux Weathershield is extremely Durable which is ideal for Irish weather.
●It is resistant to cracking and peeling over time.
●It has excellent colour retention in white and other colours.
●Other paints may not be designed for the harsh climates of Irish weather therefore it may not be as durable as Dulux weathershield.
●I have used Dulux on the majority of my exterior work due to it been formulated for Irish homes.

THAT COLOUR IS DIFFERENT TO WHAT IS ON THE SHADE CARD"
We have all said this at some stage of picking colours.

I HAVE SOME IMPORTANT TIPS TO HELP WHEN CHOOSING YOUR PAINT COLOURS.

A main reason the chosen colour may not look like the shade card is down to the lighting in the area.

The light from your windows, doors and light fixtures of the premises all play a massive role into how a colour will end up looking.

The way light shines through a window or a door will vary how a colour will look. It can make the colour look darker or lighter on a wall where the door or window is positioned.

If a lamp or a light is shining in a certain area of a premises, the way the light reflects can change the tone of the colour.

Different types of light bulbs play a role into how a colour can look. For example, a halogen light bulb can change the complexion of the paint.

The weather does play a role on how a colour may look. When the sun shines on a painted wall it may change the tone.

I hope these tips can help when choosing colours .

Hi all, welcome to my new business page. Thank you for taking the time to check out some pictures of work completed.

Here is a few before and after of some floors
completed by AJ Painting Contractor.
The idea was to keep the rustic feel (the floors were sanded and deep cleaned not stripped back).

We wanted to show the effects of the darker and lighter timber by using a gloss varnish. The outcome is a rustic yet sleek looking floor.

The products used on this project were researched carefully and tried and tested before applying to help achieve a great finish.

Products used:
•Ronseal Diamond hard floor varnish
•Additives owatrol oil
•A Corona ultra weave sleeve
