When project requirements change, being able to respond quickly and work together becomes even more important.

Coffey has supported Severn Trent Water in meeting an accelerated regulatory compliance deadline at Mayfield Sewage Treatment Works in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

Following the Environment Agencyโ€™s decision to bring the compliance date forward to 30 September 2026, additional works were required to increase storm storage capacity and help reduce spill events.

Working closely with Severn Trent to understand its priorities and the pressures created by the accelerated deadline, our team developed a practical solution to increase storm storage capacity and help reduce spill events. Through focused design sprints, early supply-chain engagement and collaborative planning, we adapted to the additional requirements and helped progress the works from design and procurement through to installation and commissioning within the revised timeframe.

With works taking place within a constrained operational site, careful coordination was essential. The team worked closely with contractors and local stakeholders, including a neighbouring farm and campsite, to maintain progress while minimising disruption.

The project reflects how we aim to work with our customers: understanding the challenge, adapting when circumstances change and working together to deliver the required outcome.

It also puts Coffeyโ€™s โ€˜Do it Togetherโ€™ value into practice, with the client, our team and supply chain working towards a shared goal.

Facing changing programme or regulatory requirements? Weโ€™d be happy to discuss how early collaboration can help find the right way forward.

2026 NISO Awards: Double win for Coffey

Coffey was recognised with two awards at the 2026 National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) Occupational Safety Awards in Killarney on Friday 9th October 2026.

The awards ceremony was preceded by the NISO annual health and safety conference on the topic of "Health and Safety in the Digital Age 2.0", where our HSQE Director Paul Daly shared a contractor's perspective on the practical use of digital tools.

The Distinction Award recognises the efforts of our teams and supply chain to keep people safe.

The Exceptional High Achiever Award was received for consistently achieving Distinction or above for more than 10 years consecutively. We are particularly proud of this award, as it reflects the ongoing commitment and leadership at Coffey and our relentless ambition to improve every day.

While the HSQE team accepted the awards (and enjoyed the Killarney hospitality!), they did so on behalf of everybody at Coffey and our supply chain, who play a part and contribute to these achievements and ensure that we live our values every day.

Do The Right Thing.
Do It Better.
Do It Together.

Last Friday, members of the Coffey team laced up their runners and took part in the Croรญ Heart & Stroke Charity 5K Night Run in Galway, supporting the work of Croรญ Heart & Stroke Charity, a charity dedicated to reducing the impact of heart disease and stroke on families across the West of Ireland.

The support didn't stop at the finish line. Across the business, colleagues also came together for a Coffee Morning in aid of Croรญ, raising over โ‚ฌ600 for the charity's vital services and programmes.

Initiatives like these reflect what our values look like in practice.

Do The Right Thing by supporting organisations that make a real difference in the communities where we live and work.

Do It Better by continually looking for ways to contribute beyond our day-to-day roles and create a positive impact.

Do It Together by combining our efforts, whether that's taking part in a 5K run, organising a fundraising event, or supporting colleagues and communities through a shared purpose.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and helped make the events a success.

Ireland needs continued investment in the infrastructure that supports our communities, economy and future generations. At Coffey, we're focused on playing an increasingly important role in delivering it.

We were delighted to welcome Jenny Melia, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, along with James Fox and Majella Maher, to our headquarters in Athenry on Friday.

The visit was an opportunity to share our growth journey and our ambition to build a stronger, more innovative Irish engineering business, creating skilled employment, developing our people and expanding our reach across Ireland, the UK and international markets.

We also showcased the growing capabilities of Coftec, where investment in specialist manufacturing and offsite construction is helping us rethink how essential infrastructure can be delivered more efficiently, consistently and sustainably.

Why does this matter?

Because growing Coffey is about more than increasing the size of our business. It's about strengthening Irish engineering capability, creating opportunities for our people and delivering the water, energy and transport infrastructure that communities will depend on for generations.

Enterprise Ireland has an important role to play in supporting that ambition, helping Irish businesses innovate, scale and compete internationally.

Thank you to Jenny, James and Majella for visiting and for the continued engagement and support.

Our purpose remains clear: Enhancing communities through engineering excellence.

Coffey has completed construction works of the Ballybane Road and Castlepark Road Cycle Network Scheme on behalf of Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe / Galway City Council, delivering new active travel infrastructure through a busy residential, educational and commercial area of Galway City.

Beginning in February 2025, the project has delivered approximately 2.4 km of new footpaths and segregated cycle infrastructure along Ballybane Road and Castlepark Road, creating improved facilities for people walking, wheeling and cycling through the area.

The completed scheme includes:

โ€ข Protected cycle tracks and new footpaths along both routes.

โ€ข 36 upgraded junctions, incorporating raised crossings and cycle priority measures.

โ€ข 13 pedestrian crossing points.

โ€ข 15 bus stops.

โ€ข Upgraded signalised junctions at Ballybane Road/Castlepark Road and Castlepark Road/Monivea Road.

โ€ข Full carriageway resurfacing and associated landscaping.

The route serves local communities as well as Atlantic Technological University and a range of businesses, industrial facilities and community amenities. It has also been designed to connect with the wider development of Galway City's active travel network.

Delivered by Galway City Council's Active Travel Department and co-funded by the National Transport Authority and the Government's Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, the project forms part of ongoing investment in walking and cycling infrastructure across Galway City.

Completion marks the end of a significant programme of works undertaken while maintaining access through a busy urban environment. We would like to thank Galway City Council, the project partners, local residents, businesses and road users for their cooperation throughout construction.

Day one of the International Water Association World Water Congress & Exhibition 2026 brought together water professionals from across the industry to discuss the challenges, innovations and opportunities shaping the future of the sector.

Across the day, the Coftec team engaged in conversations with utilities, consultants, contractors and technology providers, covering topics including water treatment, modular infrastructure, process optimisation and emerging project opportunities.

As part of Coffey, Coftec combines specialist water and wastewater treatment expertise with Coffey's experience in engineering, construction and project delivery. Together, we support clients throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to construction, commissioning and completion.

The discussions taking place at the world water congress reinforce the growing demand for practical, scalable solutions that can be delivered efficiently while meeting operational and environmental requirements.

The event continues throughout the week, and the team remains at Stand 120.

If you're attending, stop by Stand 120 to discuss your next project, share your challenges, and explore how Coffey and Coftec can help take ideas from concept to completion. Joe Gleeson and the Team look forward to meeting you.
