Nikki recently joined a site visit to the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP) 港深創科園, organized by HKIA — and it turned out to be one of the most thought-provoking trips in a while.
What struck her most wasn't the scale of construction, but the care behind the planning. Bird flight paths and ecological zones were factored into the masterplan from day one — a reminder that even a high-density I&T hub can be designed with respect for the natural landscape around it.
The site sits right along the Lok Ma Chau boundary crossing 落馬洲關口, with a new MTR station planned to strengthen the link between Hong Kong and Shenzhen — backed by cross-boundary policy support under the Shenzhen-Hong Kong I&T Co-operation framework. Fast-tracked construction is already bringing this vision to life, with an incubation programme powered by world-class partners including AstraZeneca and Lenovo, and the park overlooks the newly built Huanggang Port 皇崗口岸 — a striking symbol of the two cities growing closer together.
A trip that left us thinking differently about how urban planning, ecology, and cross-border collaboration can work hand in hand. 🌿🏙️
