One circulation, multiple spatial expressions.

At Shenzhen MixC Phase III, space unfolds through movement. Geometric modules, existing columns and atrium elements intersect to create shifting layers of light, scale and perspective.

Rather than dividing the interior into isolated visual moments, AG allows these elements to remain in dialogue. As people move, turn or pause, the space reveals a different relationship each time — a new scale ahead, another light condition behind, a detail only noticed in passing.

Here, space is not simply viewed.
It is gradually understood through movement.

A disused rural school in Houyuan Village is reconfigured through a continuous curved roof that reconnects three existing buildings while retaining the original stone walls and five mature metasequoia trees.

The intervention is deliberately restrained. Courtyards, rooms, public spaces, and a walkable rooftop are linked into a continuous sequence, allowing the landscape to unfold gradually through movement.

Here, architecture steps back from the scenery — making room for the mountains, terraces, and everyday life to take the lead.

In Houyuan Village, Wuyishan, AG approached the transformation not as a process of rebuilding, but of identifying what was worth keeping.

Three existing school buildings, original stone walls, and five 60-year-old metasequoia trees were preserved. A continuous roof reconnects the fragmented buildings, bringing classrooms, courtyards and shared spaces into a new relationship.

Rather than erasing the traces of the school, the intervention gives them new uses. Reclaimed timber and stone are integrated into the architecture, while the roofscape, courtyards and changing terrain shape a new journey through the site.

Bamboo groves, terraced fields, old trees and stone walls remain part of the experience throughout.

Renewal does not always mean starting over.

Shenzhen MixC Phase III was transformed from an existing residential podium more than three decades old. Its retained structure and irregular building profile set clear limits on how far the façade could be altered.

Rather than replacing the existing fabric, AG introduced a series of small, angled modules along the north–south façades, bringing a new rhythm and continuity to the long street frontage.

Ceramic-frit glass and metal panels shift subtly with changing viewpoints and daylight. As people move along the street, the façade alternates between transparency and opacity, light and shadow. By night, illumination from within reveals another layer of the building envelope.

The renewal is not simply about giving an old building a new skin, but about rebuilding its relationship with the street.

Kingston International School, Hong Kong

White volumes, transparent glass and a vivid blue give Kingston International School a distinct early-2000s character.

But beyond its visual language, the school asks a more fundamental question: where does learning happen?

Corridors, courtyards, open spaces and shaded areas are treated as extensions of the classroom — places to read, move, observe, meet and pause.

With the scale of students in mind, the design leaves certain spaces intentionally open-ended, allowing different forms of learning to emerge through everyday use.

Shenzhen Bay MixC Phase II

Let the street move through the building.

Along the urban green valley, bridges, terraces, courtyards and open platforms unfold across different levels, extending the street beyond the ground plane.

As circulation shifts between inside and out, commercial spaces, cultural programs and entrances become interconnected. The building is no longer experienced as a single volume, but as a layered urban field of movement, encounter and pause.

Guangzhou Baietan MixC is taking shape on site.

With the interior fit-out largely in place, the atrium, public spaces and commercial circulation are gradually becoming defined. Ideas around scale, layers and spatial relationships are beginning to translate into a tangible experience on site.

The project continues to evolve, moving steadily from drawings towards everyday experience.

WHERE THE TIDE MEETS THE INTERIOR

At MIXC VILLAGE, Atelier Glow translates the language of the coast into an interior experience.

Curved surfaces recall tide-shaped rock formations; gradient flooring evokes tidal flats; while water-rippled ceilings and shifting light create a fluid spatial rhythm.

Rather than reproducing the seaside, the design captures its traces through material, form and light, extending the coastal experience into everyday movement and moments of pause.

DESIGNING FOR THE LIFE BETWEEN CLASSES

A school is shaped not only by its classrooms, but by everything that happens in between.

At Shenzhen Middle School Guangming Science City School, the challenge was not simply how to accommodate 84 classes on a triangular site, but how to keep a campus of this scale open, connected and generous in everyday use.

Atelier Glow takes the campus upward. Courtyards, bridges, open ground floors, terraces and planted roofs are layered around a continuous teaching spine, allowing learning, movement, play and landscape to meet across different levels.

What could have become a constraint of density instead becomes a way to create more encounters, more views, and more places to pause.

A dense campus, designed not to compress school life, but to make more room for it.
