Some years ago, we imagined another life for Fábrica Venus — a century-old candy factory in the heart of Zona 1, Guatemala City. Along the way, we engaged with young people, neighbors and community groups to understand what the neighborhood truly needed. The answer was clear: a place for everyone. A food market, open courtyards, cultural spaces, offices, a rooftop with views of the historic skyline. All within a structure that already existed, already had scale, character and memory.
Reuse is not nostalgia. It’s the most sensitive — and most intelligent — way to build a city.
This is an invitation to a conversation about how we can bring the industrial heritage of our Central American cities back to life — with community, memory and urban vitality at the center.

Hace algunos años, imaginamos otra vida para la Fábrica Venus — una antigua fábrica de dulces en el corazón de Zona 1, Ciudad de Guatemala. Durante el proceso, conversamos con jóvenes, vecinos y distintos grupos de la comunidad para entender qué necesitaba el barrio. La respuesta fue clara: un lugar para todos. Mercado gastronómico, patios verdes, cultura, oficinas, terraza panorámica. Todo dentro de una estructura que ya existía, que ya tenía escala, carácter e historia.
Reutilizar no es nostalgia. Es la forma más sensible — y más inteligente — de construir ciudad.
Esta es una invitación a conversar sobre cómo poner en valor el patrimonio industrial de nuestras ciudades centroamericanas: con más comunidad, más memoria y más vida urbana.
