1st Multi-Programme Projects Dialogue on Energy in Tunisia 🌏

Are you a key stakeholder based in Tunisia? Interested in joining our Mediterranean dialogue on energy and sustainability?

Join us to discover solutions and experiences from NEXT MED, Euro-MED and other Mediterranean programmes and projects addressing energy and sustainability challenges across the region.

This event, inspired by the strong cooperation fostered through the Mediterranean Multi-Programme Mechanism (MMM), aims to bridge project results with emerging policy frameworks, creating a dynamic space for dialogue among policy-makers, researchers, project leaders and local authorities. By sharing experiences and lessons learned, the event contributes to shaping a more cohesive, resilient and sustainable cooperation landscape in the Mediterranean.

As a Sustainable Energy Day under , the event supports the advancement of clean energy and energy efficiency, offering a platform to inspire collaboration, inform decision-making and drive behavioural change towards achieving energy and climate goals.

The team from Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) continues to make steady progress within the RESt4GREEN project.

🏢 Public buildings are at the heart of Europe’s energy transition — and 2026 is a key milestone.

From 2026 onwards, EU countries must start implementing the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), accelerating the renovation of the worst-performing public buildings. The goal is clear: lower energy consumption, reduced energy dependency, improved comfort, and less energy poverty.

In the Mediterranean region, where public buildings often face high cooling demands and ageing infrastructure, energy renovation is not optional — it’s essential. Measures such as better insulation, efficient heating and cooling systems, and on-site renewable solutions can dramatically improve performance and resilience.

Statistics based on Eurostat energy balances and the European Environment Agency Greenhouse Gas Inventory (2023) show that:
➡️ around 40% of energy consumed in the EU is used in buildings
➡️ around 50% of EU's gas consumption is attributable to buildings
➡️ +/- 80% of energy used in EU homes is for heating, cooling and hot water

As Europe moves toward its 2030 and 2050 climate goals, building renovation is one of the most powerful tools we have — and the Mediterranean must be part of this transformation.

How do Mediterranean countries support energy efficiency in practice? 🌏

RESt4GREEN is currently collecting and analysing existing policy instruments on energy efficiency across Greece, Türkiye, Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan.

By reviewing laws, strategies, and initiatives already in place, we aim to identify what works well, highlight common challenges, and capture good practices that support greener public buildings and sustainable development.

The analysis phase is now reaching its final stage — stay tuned as we will soon share the key findings and insights shaping the Mediterranean energy efficiency landscape.

RESt4GREEN reads Europe’s progress on climate and energy goals! 🌿

The latest EEA report shows that in 2024, net greenhouse gas emissions in the EU fell by a further 2.5%, confirming a steady shift towards cleaner and more efficient energy systems.

At local level, communities focus on:
• reducing energy consumption in buildings
• investing in nature-based solutions
• cutting waste and environmental impact

The EU has set a common target of reaching at least 42.5% renewable energy use by 2030 and of further reductions in energy consumption. 🏡

These EU-level insights reinforce the relevance of initiatives that focus on sustainable energy use, smart public spaces, and community engagement in climate action.
