Veil House_Private Residence in Marousi, Attica
Physical models are increasingly becoming an important part of our process, when designing and studying a new building. In combination with renders and plans, they offer a unique approach and comprehension of the space intended, its scale and dimensions, the combination of materials and construction system. They help examine and communicate more complex architectural ideas. But more importantly in a world so hugely digitized, and in an endeavour like architecture were the final outcome is experienced many steps later into the process - physical models help us bring the spirit of the building and its completion closer to us. Something we can touch and experience directly in the real world. A small architectural mantra.

Veil House_Private Residence in Marousi, Attica
The interior of the house is organized around a central space, that partly works as an internal atrium that permeates all levels of the house and provides additional natural lighting via a skylight in the final plane of the building.
-In the ground floor the space dissolves in its surrounding exteriors through extensive use of large openings.
-In the upper level it hosts three large bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and resting areas, thus the relation to the exterior is designed to be more controlled and private, via carefully placed openings and several adjustable shading devices. The double heighted space flooded with light from split level planes and the skylight, acts as the interior heart of the house.
-The material palette of the interior follows a masonry of stone walls for the main elements shaping the boundaries of the ground floor. Soft wood paneling is used in several rooms providing warmth and adjusting the acoustic levels in each space. Finally selected areas of exposed concrete work together with the natural light entering the interior from several angles during the day.

The exterior body of the house is designed as a semi transparent veil, that works threefold:
-Allowing extensive and wide openings to the outdoor space
-Protecting the privacy and climate of the indoor spaces
-Framing and coordinating the perception of the outside world, towards desired views. Sometimes on the surrounding areas and sometimes towards introvertly designed private spaces

VOLTA

This concept for a three storey residence in Papagou Athens, is conceived as a stroll around the stunning view and nature, surrounding the plot. Rooted on the first floor, it meanders its way through the several spaces of the house, circulating and framing the view in different ways and qualities, in the form of a vertical stem permeating the ascending levels, before concluding the walk-through in the terrace, the light and the open air.

Focused on transparency, the abundance of natural light, and stunning view of this two storey house - the design incorporates distinct contrast of materials, multiple layers of blinds on doors and partitions, together with other eclectic elements emphasizing the simple yet luxurious atmosphere of this space. Surprise openings, two storey open spaces and bridged pathways designed inside the house and incorporating glass, create a multidimensional view and walk-through experience of the everyday life and vista, while all together providing a stimulating playground for its feline co-inhabitants.
