On 29 May 2026, INZEB in its capacity as Country Coordinator in Greece, organised a "𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲, 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗲”, bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the tourism sector, local and regional authorities, public institutions, research organisations and the civil society.
Among the key issues highlighted during the discussion were:
🔹 Climate change is already affecting the operation and development of Greek tourism and is no longer a future threat
🔹 Climate impacts and adaptation capacity vary significantly across island, coastal, urban, and mountainous areas, creating unequal resilience conditions
🔹 Exposure to climate-related risks is closely linked to natural resources management, infrastructure, carrying capacity, and destination spatial planning
🔹 Resilience depends on strategic planning and overall adaptability, not only on managing extreme events
🔹 A stable policy framework is essential for making long-term investment decisions related to climate resilience
🔹 Using scientific knowledge and available data depends largely on the existence of coordination, cooperation, and implementation mechanisms.
🔹 Strengthening resilience while preserving the natural and cultural characteristics of destinations are key to their long-term competitiveness
🔹 The integration of tourism, environmental, spatial planning, and adaptation policies, with the involvement of local communities and economic stakeholders, has emerged as a critical factor for the resilience of Greek tourism
