Aperi 1955 has been longlisted for the Archello Awards 2026 in the House Extension of the Year category.
In Aperi, Karpathos, two buildings from different periods have been brought together as one residence. A stone-built house dating from before 1955 and a concrete addition from 1977 form the starting point for an architectural intervention that connects the existing structures with contemporary living.

The finalists will be announced in November.

Curated in collaboration with Danai Makri & Design Ambassador, the panel will feature Angeliki Mavroleon (A&M Architects), Andreas Kostopoulos (Manhattan Projects) and Nikos Daditsios (Panas Sophisticated Hospitality), bringing together different perspectives on the relationship between international influences and local identity.

Can universities become catalysts for the next generation of urban districts?
At this year’s Prodexpo, A&M Architects curated and participated in the panel “Universities as Real Estate Catalysts: How Campuses Reshape Cities, Investment and the Next Generation of Urban Districts,” represented by our President & CEO, Michael Mavroleon.
Together with Anne Papageorge (University of Pennsylvania), Christina Paraskevopoulou (Alphabet Education Group) and Constantin Pechlivanidis, MSc. (PREMIA Properties), the discussion explored the growing potential of student housing in Greece, bringing together perspectives from education, real estate investment, campus development and architecture.

From balancing investment performance with quality of living to rethinking the relationship between student accommodation, university campuses and surrounding neighbourhoods, the conversation highlighted an important opportunity: to look beyond student housing as an individual real estate asset and recognise its potential as a catalyst for community building and urban regeneration.

At A&M Architects, we believe the value of a development should not be measured solely within the boundaries of its site, but also by the positive impact it can create beyond them.

Thank you to our fellow panelists, Vassilios Bartzokas and moderator Danai Makri for an engaging and insightful discussion.

The Ellinikon Mall from vision to reality. As development progresses, The Ellinikon Mall moves closer to becoming a new destination for Athens. Spanning 185,000 sqm, the mixed-use development brings together retail, food and beverage, leisure and commercial spaces within a large-scale urban project that rethinks how people experience shopping, work and public life.

Designed by Aedas, with A&M Architects as Architect of Record for LAMDA Development, the project already received the International Architecture Award in the Mixed-Use Buildings category back in 2024.

A project to watch as one of Athens’ most ambitious urban transformations continues to take shape.

How can universities become catalysts for urban transformation?

Michael Mavroleon, CEO of A&M Architects, will join the conversation, bringing an architectural perspective to the intersection of urban development, investment and the built environment.

Located on the southern edge of the Dodecanese, Althea Boutique Hotel-Adults Only reinterprets the spatial language of a traditional Karpathian settlement through a contemporary architectural lens.
Composed as a sequence of two-storey volumes, courtyards and narrow passages, the hotel echoes the organic growth of the island’s historic villages. Traditional elements such as the mousandra, textured local flooring and restrained geometries are reinterpreted as spatial experiences, creating a dialogue between cultural memory and contemporary hospitality.
Rooted in place, materiality and craftsmanship, Althea offers a contemporary expression of Karpathos shaped by atmosphere, authenticity and the enduring culture of welcoming.

An existing 1990s office block, reimagined. Rather than demolish, the design intent for this office building centers on adaptive reuse, retaining the building’s structural bones while giving it an entirely new architectural language for a contemporary workplace.
Sited along the national road, the building sits within a pedestrian zone that opens onto two localized green parks, offering staff a rare green outlook in a dense suburban context. This orientation became the starting point for the design: the long north-facing façade needed no additional shading, freeing it to become a fully glazed, welcoming edge, while the sun-exposed west, south and east elevations called for a performative second skin.
The result is a sculptural, faceted canopy that reframes the entrance as a landmark, a triangulated glass volume beneath an oversized folded roof plane, introducing human scale to an otherwise horizontal block. Around it, a vertical louvered skin filters daylight and tempers solar gain, while a planted roof terrace and water features soften the building’s edges and extend the workplace outdoors.
Inside, generous open plan floors, breakout zones and a central atrium bring daylight and greenery deep into the plan, supporting wellbeing and biophilic connection at every level.

We may have been away from the office, but Karpathos kept things moving.
This summer, Α.Σ. ΠΡΩΤΕΑΣ ΑΠΕΡΙΟΥ ΚΑΡΠΑΘΟΥ (Proteas Aperiou) brought home the Karpathos Cup, marking a memorable season for the team and the community around it.
Proud to support the club with a full new team kit, strengthening its presence across the island’s summer sporting events and even prouder to see it take the field all the way to the Cup.

Congratulations to everyone behind this season’s success!
