🌿🏛 Agora Urban Forest — Proposal for the New Municipal Market of Agia Marina, Ioannina
The proposal for the new Municipal Market of Agia Marina is based on the idea of an “urban forest,” drawing from the layered historical context of the site.
The design is structured around a system of stone grounding elements and a lightweight metal roof, allowing natural light to enter rhythmically through a sequence of openings. These components form a spatial palimpsest that brings together the architectural heritage of the surrounding monuments with a contemporary structural language.
At its core, the project seeks to unify building and public space. The market’s linear organization refers to the typology of the urban street, while the creation of patios and shaded passages introduces moments of openness, light, and permeability.
