Crater

Crater was the first home that we ever designed. It is located on the top of a hill, enjoying an incredible panoramic view of the Cycladic archipelago. The hilltop location created two basic challenges for the design: First, we needed to protect the exterior living areas from strong Northern winds and second, we had to avoid the ‘cherry on top of a cake’ effect, concealing the visible volume of the house. The concept of a Crater was ideally suited to confront both challenges.

Mit ihrem Neubau auf der Kykladeninsel Milos führen Deca Architecture ein Langzeitprojekt fort: Seit fast zehn Jahren gestalten sie im Auftrag eines privaten Bauherrn ein Areal in Küstennähe zum Wohnen und für die landwirtschaftliche Nutzung um. Fünf Projekte haben sie seit 2012 auf dem rund 9 ha großen Gelände entworfen – darunter ein kleines Wohnhaus, einen Olivenhain und einen Obstgarten.

Der jetzt abgeschlossene Hourglass Corral ist mit seinen vier Schlafzimmern das bisher größte Gebäude. Wie schon die Vorgängerprojekte basiert sein Grundriss auf einem Voronoi-Diagramm. Dabei werden, ausgehend von den jeweiligen Raummittelpunkten, Zonen oder Räume definiert, die all jene Punkte enthalten, die näher am jeweiligen Raummittelpunkt liegen als an allen anderen Mittelpunkten.
