THE 3 BROTHERS IN OIL & GAS — WHO HAS HARDER JOB?
A. WELDER — The Maker (Hands work)
- Physical hardest. Heat, smoke, sparks, kneeling inside pipe, 6G overhead burning neck.
- Must control hands steady for 3 hours. One mistake = cut and re-weld whole joint.
- Body suffers — eyes, back, lungs. Skill is in your hands.
B. NDT INSPECTOR — The Detective (Eyes of machine)
- Mental + Technical hardest. Uses UT, RT, MT, PT machines to find defects EYE cannot see — crack inside weld 2mm.
- Must know welding + physics + codes (ASME, API). If he misses defect, pipe explodes, people die.
- Job is lonely and pressure — he must FAIL his own friend welder's job. No friendship in NDT.
C. QA/QC — The Judge (Paper + Responsibility)
- Responsibility hardest. He signs paper that says "This weld is good for 30 years in oil rig".
- Must know WPS, PQR, codes, documentation, manages Welders + NDT. If anything fails, QA/QC goes to court, not welder.
- Fights with everybody — production says "approve fast", he says "no, redo".
