🏆 Best Heritage Award! 🏆

What a lovely evening and a wonderful surprise!

We are absolutely delighted to have received the Best Heritage Award at this year’s Tilers community ™ Awards.

For me, restoring historic floors has never been just about tiles. It’s about preserving history, respecting the craftsmanship of those who came before us, and making sure their work can be enjoyed by future generations.

After 25 years in the trade, I still love what I do, and receiving recognition from our own industry makes it that little bit more special.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, our lovely clients, fellow tradespeople, friends and, most importantly, my family, who put up with my endless passion for old tiles! 😂❤️

Congratulations to all the other winners and finalists. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces.

From our little family business, a very big thank you! ❤️

TILE RESTORATION YORK

A leaking pipe, combined with the usual damp issues often found in period properties, had caused significant deterioration to this original geometric tiled hallway. Large areas had become loose and unstable, with a number of original tiles already missing.

Local and trusted damp specialists DryFix diagnosed the underlying issue and provided an effective long-term solution, before putting their trust in Opus Tile Restoration to carry out the specialist restoration of the floor.

The areas marked in blue show where the most significant intervention was required. We carefully lifted the affected sections, salvaging and reusing as much of the original material as possible. Missing tiles were replaced with carefully sourced original reclaimed tiles, while the decorative encaustic tiles that could not be sourced were specially manufactured to match the originals.

The geometric pattern was then carefully reinstated, including the recreation of a traditional recessed mat well at the entrance.

Once all restoration work was completed, the entire floor was deep cleaned and sealed, bringing the original colours and detail back to life while retaining the character and age of the floor.

And finally, a small finishing touch — an Opus Tile Restoration signature tile incorporated into the border.

Huge thanks to Fraser Rafton and Russell Rafton from Dryfix Preservation Limited not only for their trust but also for their collaboration.
