Just as we were starting this large staircase renovation, the client had a great idea — they decided they wanted a runner carpet!

It wasn’t part of the original plans, so it was added to the project following our initial consultation. It’s going to make such a big difference to the finished staircase, and I honestly can’t wait to see it all carpeted and completed. 👌

Another project where the finishing touches are going to completely transform the space! 🙌

Maintenance Day 🔧🚐

Today is a maintenance day for SP Decorators.

We finished a few projects sooner than expected and initially aimed to pull another job forward, but in the end we had to make the decision to take today as a blessing rather than force another job into the schedule.

Keeping a busy decorating business running smoothly isn’t just about being on the tools. Our machines, vans and equipment work hard, and we rarely get the opportunity to give everything the attention it deserves.

So today is all about maintenance — cleaning and servicing our machines, taking stock of materials, getting the vans cleaned and oiled, and making sure everything is ready for another busy period as we head towards the end of our external season.

A steady day in this heat, getting everything organised behind the scenes so we're ready to go again. 💪

And tonight, we’re looking forward to seeing the solar eclipse! 😄🌒

Before & after 👌

A recent garage conversion we completed for one of our very first clients — someone who first gave me a chance over 11 years ago, when I was working on my own, knew very little about running a business and had only the decorating knowledge I’d picked up along the way.

Fast forward 11+ years and it’s pretty rewarding to be back working for the same client, but this time with a completely different perspective and a team behind me.

For this project, we followed on from Conserve , who managed the garage conversion, and took a step back from managing the project ourselves. Instead, we focused purely on what we do best — the finishing touches that bring a project together.

It’s easy to look at a finished room and just see the end result, but sometimes the best part is looking back at how far you’ve come to get there. 👊

A slightly different viewing day today! 👌

As the summer holidays have started it's time for Chester to learn what we do to run a business and meet new people.

With the team busy on two other projects, I had my youngest by my side while we measured up for a full two-bedroom redecoration. He did a great job charming the potential clients! 😄

We also made a trip to the Designer Outlet for two reasons: to carry out a job survey at the Penguin store (through a tender from a company down south, so no one there knew we were visiting!) and, more importantly according to him... to return the socks we'd forgotten to bring! 😭🧦

To round the day off, we grabbed some food together. After all, I always make sure my staff get paid... even the smallest member of the team! ☺️

I was hoping to get this wrapped up on Saturday, but we find solutions, not problems!

After arriving full of enthusiasm on what was a very warm day (not complaining 😃), things didn't quite go to plan. With all the masking completed, I fired up my sprayer—only for the machine, which has been faultless for the last 6–7 years, to decide it had other ideas. It wouldn't even pump material through.

Thankfully, a quick phone call to my good friend saved the day. He kindly lent me his machine, which I adapted to suit my setup, allowing me to return today and deliver what I'd promised to the building team.

Looking forward to coming back and putting the finishing touches on this beautiful space. 🤩

An external project Alfie and I completed earlier this week.

The key to achieving a quality finish on this project was the preparation. Considerable time was spent ensuring all surfaces were properly prepared before any coatings were applied.

The client wanted the exterior walls to complement the anthracite colour of their bi-fold doors, so we finished the masonry using Dulux Weathershield Smooth Masonry Paint in anthracite.

The woodwork was coated with an opaque anthracite finish, as the client preferred a modern, low-sheen appearance rather than a traditional gloss finish.

We're delighted with the final result, which has given the property a contemporary and coordinated look.

Hire a decorator that takes more pride in his dust sheets than his bed sheets.

We usually take our sheets to a launderette twice a year but our local launderette has since refused due to other tradesman(plasterers) damaging their machines 😂 although stating ours was usually ok, but now a company policy 🥺

*Disclaimer for my landlord* No washing machines were harmed in this process 🫡

£880… that’s how much the paint alone cost on this ceiling.

Applying Envirograf to this ceiling was no easy task in the first place.

But this ceiling had seen better days — old damage throughout and even evidence of a stud wall being fitted at some point in its history. What made the difference here was all the preparation work beforehand.
