Minster Hotel — Project Complete ✅

A few completion shots from our Minster Hotel project, including the before and afters.

You can really see the difference, especially in that pure brilliant white finish — a complete transformation.

Another great effort from the team. Plenty of preparation, attention to detail and hard work has gone into this one, and we’re really pleased with the final result.

Another project finished to the SP standard. 👌

We’re well on the way to getting the Minster Hotel project completed tomorrow, and it’s been a good one to be involved with.

When we first start an external project, our initial start day is essentially an investigation day, on this day we uncovered a large area of rotten timber within the top fascia.

We contacted Goodall Joinery and Building Ltd , who were able to get to site within a few days, remove the damaged timber and install a new timber structure for us to work with.

This meant we could keep everything moving as planned and, once the scaffolding could be removed, continue with the lower section of the building.

A great example of different trades working together to keep a project moving and avoid unnecessary delays.

Well done to everyone involved 😊

🦅⚽ We’re delighted to announce that SP Decorators are sponsoring Rufforth Eagles U12s!

We’re proud to be supporting the team with their home and away kits for the season.

We felt it was important for us to support a fantastic local club and, after realising that supporting United was becoming increasingly upsetting every week… we thought we’d put our money somewhere a little more positive! 😂🔴

Joking aside, a huge amount of credit has to go to the coaches and volunteers who give up their own time, week in and week out, to support these young players.

They don’t just teach the game of football; they help develop confidence, teamwork, discipline and friendships — while making sure every member of the team gets the opportunity to learn, improve and enjoy the game.

Grassroots football relies heavily on people giving their time and businesses supporting clubs like this, so we’re really pleased that SP Decorators can play a small part in helping Rufforth Eagles U12s this season.

Good luck for the season, Eagles! 🦅⚽

And remember… UP THE EAGLES! 👊

People say, “While the gaffer’s away, the team will play…”

Not here! 😂

While I was away, the team were working early mornings and late nights to complete an end-of-tenancy project in Heworth for one of our landlord clients, all while continuing to manage the Bootham external project.

And now onto Day 2 of our Penguin 🐧 Store project at York Designer Outlet, which is well underway and on track for completion by Thursday evening.

We’ve had a few colour-matching issues along the way with specifications from Penguin Head Office, but the team have worked through them and, as you can hear, there’s a great atmosphere on site.

We’re looking forward to showing you more as the project evolves — and, once the shelving and clothing are back in place, we’ll show you the finished shop.

Great teamwork, great atmosphere and another project progressing nicely. 👏

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be starting a new project at our local Penguin 🐧 store in the Designer Outlet next week!

We’ll be giving you a little behind-the-scenes look at the work as it progresses, so keep your eyes peeled 👀

We’ll keep you posted! 😀

Just as we were starting this large staircase renovation, the client had a great idea — they decided they wanted a runner carpet!

It wasn’t part of the original plans, so it was added to the project following our initial consultation. It’s going to make such a big difference to the finished staircase, and I honestly can’t wait to see it all carpeted and completed. 👌

Another project where the finishing touches are going to completely transform the space! 🙌

Maintenance Day 🔧🚐

Today is a maintenance day for SP Decorators.

We finished a few projects sooner than expected and initially aimed to pull another job forward, but in the end we had to make the decision to take today as a blessing rather than force another job into the schedule.

Keeping a busy decorating business running smoothly isn’t just about being on the tools. Our machines, vans and equipment work hard, and we rarely get the opportunity to give everything the attention it deserves.

So today is all about maintenance — cleaning and servicing our machines, taking stock of materials, getting the vans cleaned and oiled, and making sure everything is ready for another busy period as we head towards the end of our external season.

A steady day in this heat, getting everything organised behind the scenes so we're ready to go again. 💪

And tonight, we’re looking forward to seeing the solar eclipse! 😄🌒

Sometimes a day that looks like a quiet one is exactly what the business needs.

Before & after 👌

A recent garage conversion we completed for one of our very first clients — someone who first gave me a chance over 11 years ago, when I was working on my own, knew very little about running a business and had only the decorating knowledge I’d picked up along the way.

Fast forward 11+ years and it’s pretty rewarding to be back working for the same client, but this time with a completely different perspective and a team behind me.

For this project, we followed on from Conserve , who managed the garage conversion, and took a step back from managing the project ourselves. Instead, we focused purely on what we do best — the finishing touches that bring a project together.

It’s easy to look at a finished room and just see the end result, but sometimes the best part is looking back at how far you’ve come to get there. 👊

A slightly different viewing day today! 👌

As the summer holidays have started it's time for Chester to learn what we do to run a business and meet new people.

With the team busy on two other projects, I had my youngest by my side while we measured up for a full two-bedroom redecoration. He did a great job charming the potential clients! 😄

We also made a trip to the Designer Outlet for two reasons: to carry out a job survey at the Penguin store (through a tender from a company down south, so no one there knew we were visiting!) and, more importantly according to him... to return the socks we'd forgotten to bring! 😭🧦

To round the day off, we grabbed some food together. After all, I always make sure my staff get paid... even the smallest member of the team! ☺️
