A full dig-out and underfloor heating floor installation completed on barn project York
This project required excavation to approximately 800mm below finished floor level, with all spoil removed using plant machinery to create the required build-up depth.
Once excavation was complete, we installed and compacted 200mm of Type 1 stone to provide a solid, stable sub-base.
A 150mm concrete subfloor was then poured to create a strong structural base, followed by 120mm insulation to maximise thermal efficiency and reduce heat loss.
The underfloor heating system was installed on top of the insulation before the floor was finished with a 75mm Cemfloor liquid screed, providing excellent heat transfer and a high-quality finish ready for the final floor coverings.
This floor build-up delivers strength, durability, and outstanding heating performance, ensuring an energy-efficient and comfortable living space for years to come.
A great example of the importance of proper groundworks, excavation, and preparation before the finished floor is even seen.
