Last week, Native attended the Retrofitfurtures event at York Guildhall. It was great to take part in this round off session following our attendance at the previous events hosted by the Retrofit Network. Lucy Morris from Native had the pleasure of speaking about how we work with retrofit daily across a range of projects. Finally an honourable mention to the Guildhall itself for look absolutely stunning.

Last week we had a fantastic day at Native Architects!

As part of the , we were proud to host two fully booked hands-on hempcrete workshops at our York studio.

Participants got stuck into mixing and applying hempcrete, learning firsthand how this breathable, insulating, and low-carbon material can transform the way we build.

“The sessions were a brilliant success - full of energy, insight, and practical learning. It’s exciting to see so much enthusiasm for sustainable building materials like hempcrete,” said Lucy Morris, Architect at Native.

Thank you to everyone who joined us - your curiosity and questions made the day.

Our sincere thanks to Bob Bloore, from .shed , who delivered the workshops. We’ve all learned a lot from Bob’s insight and experience in the subject.

Today, Native is on site at the Quarry “Nick Ward Stone” of Grosmont Quarry, selecting stone for a heritage project in Whitby.

Thank you so much to our client (and former Native) James Neward of YorSpace for the guided tour of Lowfield Green. Fantastic to see our designs finally come to fruition, after all the ups and downs, stops and starts.

This pioneering new development, is a first for York, and is playing an important role in creating a solution to the national housing crisis by offering a positive and sustainable alternative to the private market.

This week, our Part 2 Architectural Assistant, Mike, is taking the first step towards earning his Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessor and Retrofit Assessor!

Over the next 5 days, he’ll be immersing himself in a hands-on, classroom-based course to gain the skills needed to assess buildings and generate accurate Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for domestic dwellings.

We’re excited for Mike as he continues to develop his expertise in sustainable architecture.

We attended site to this Grade II* listed house in York’s medieval core. Great to see this conservation repair with chestnut laths to the existing ceiling ready to receive its lime plaster finish.
