A little bit of old fashioned craftsmanship....
I've had a rather enjoyable job to perform today - hand-making a key for an old money box belonging to a friend's elderly relative.
The money box has been locked up for many decades, with the original keys held by the bank/building society and used when the savings were paid in. Now a forgotten practice, the key was never offered to the account holder.
So, it was a case of making a new key the old-fashioned way - by hand, with a bit of trial and error, and plenty of patience.
All my efforts were rewarded though when the key finally turned and coins dating back to 1912 were found inside.
There's something satisfying about bringing an old mechanism back to life, especially when it opens the door to a little piece of personal history.
I suspect someone will be pleasantly surprised when they see what has been forgotten inside the money box all these years.
Sometimes the best jobs aren't the biggest ones - just the ones with a bit of history behind them.
