Leaving the wood and sawdust for a change!

Watch how two plain plaques went from flat to full of character 🌼🍋
Started with 2D design + 3D printing to get the forms right. Then into the workshop: hand-sculpted clay details, plaster casts, and a little bit of sanding. Finished off with bold, colourful paintwork that brings each piece to life.
From digital to handmade, here’s how 2D meets 3D meets pure character. Now they’re hanging proud in the summerhouse.
What should I make next?

Behind the scenes at Mick’s Workshop 👨‍🔧
Setting up today’s batch of bespoke slate fossils in LightBurn. Trilobite and ammonite designs, ready for the Acmer to work its magic.
Each piece is lasered on natural Welsh slate — no two the same. From screen to stone, this is how the details happen.

Every number has a story. This one started when a storm brought down a cherry tree earlier this year. My neighbours and I cut it up, and I kept a few slices for woodworking. This is my first project from that wood 🪵
From raw log → CNC leveling → detail sanding → hand-painted black → matte varnish. The little details matter. Left-handed, sawdust, and all.

Spent the afternoon levelling a spoil board on my new CNC. Will be making some house number plaques tomorrow!
